Recently edited for fun things like style, mainly because it's been three years since this was written.

Pairing: Joshua x Neku

Warning: Slash. Then again, if you're reading this, you probably don't care.

Summary: Joshua tries to convince Neku that he's at least a little French. This takes place sometime around the second week.

Disclaimer: I don't own them. Believe me, if I did, there would be more scenes along the lines of the Shibuya River Another Day scene.

I'm French, I Swear

"Neku?" Joshua asked slowly, aiming to catch the other boy's attention.

"... What?" Neku responded warily.

"Did you know that I'm part French?" Joshua asked, grinning almost as if he were up to something. Neku blinked, caught off-guard by Joshua's non sequitur.

"You know, for some reason, I don't believe you."

"Aw, Neku, no need to be so harsh. How about I prove to you that I'm French?"

"And how do you plan to go about doing that?"

"Bonjour, Je m'apelle Joshua. J'aime le salad," said Joshua, with an impeccable French accent. When he saw the look of utter confusion pass over Neku's face, he added, "et tu," almost as an afterthought.

"You do know that I have no idea what you just said, right?"

"I know," he giggled, utterly delighted with himself.

"Well, that still doesn't prove you're French. Anyone can pick up a second language."

"That is true, Neku. I do have another way to prove it, however."

"How's that?"

Joshua kissed Neku, slowly at first then more fervently as Neku found himself responding.

"... I don't see how this proves you're French..." Neku objected breathlessly.

Joshua giggled. "It was going to be a French kiss, actually," he answered. "But I didn't want to give you a heart attack."

"So you told me you were French just so that you'd have an excuse to kiss me."

"Oh, I don't need an excuse to kiss you, Neku."

If Neku could have turned a deeper shade of red at this point, he probably would have.

A/N: Joshua's French basically translates to this:

"Hello, my name is Joshua. I love salad... and you."

The reason for the salad is that, in the game, I always fed Joshua salad, because he seemed to like it. xD And he only added "et tu"- "and you"- after he had confirmed that Neku didn't know any French whatsoever. Since it was so long ago, I can't really remember why this idea came about.

Also, the reason the French is so simple is because the last time I took French was ages ago, and I was bad at it then.
