A/N: I was trying to write a fic for the one of the many Livejournal comms I'm a part of. The prompt was 'children' and I had this great line in my head for it. But when I typed it up and tried to attach a fic to it, it utterly failed and after some editing and rewriting, I basically ended up with this. I sort of abandoned it for a few weeks before coming back to it and making peace with it. lol So here it is! My first Naruto drabble! :D

Extra notes: Takes place when the girls are about sixteen. AU-ish, btw, since I'm still very much stuck in the beginning of the series! /shot/ x.x; And yeah, this is short, but again, this is my first attempt at a Naruto fic, so give me some time and I'll eventually do longer stuff.

Silence of the Forest

In the light of the setting sun, Hinata entered the clearing deep in the forest. There, she found Ino, lying quietly with a book in hand, somehow managing to look stylish in the simple act. Blue eyes looked up expectantly as the Hyuuga heir approached her, a smile playing at the corner of her mouth. With a shy bow of her head, Hinata knelt beside the blonde, meeting her lips in a welcomed kiss. The blonde trailed her nails softly against the shy girl's cheek as they pulled away from the kiss.

"Any trouble?" Ino asked as she bookmarked her page.

"No. It's easier to slip away unnoticed when Neji and Hanabi are out of the village." A hesitant pause, before Hinata continued in a small voice. "I'm... afraid, Ino-chan. Someone's going to find out...."

Frowning, the blonde set her book down. "So what if they do?"

"I-Ino... You know how my father is, he'll catch a fit! Who knows what he'll do?" Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"No."

"No?"

"I'm not going to break up with you, if that's what you're trying to get at." She tried to remain calm, but anger was beginning to lick at the blonde.

"I don't want to break up, Ino-chan!" Hinata quickly said, waving her hands. "I... I just don't know what to do if we get caught."

"Hina-chan, no one will find out." Ino pulled the hesitant girl into her lap, wrapping her arms securely around her. "We're not children anymore, Hina-chan. What we do is our own business, no matter who knows and who doesn't."

She buried her face against Hinata's neck, taking in the soft smell of the other girl. Her hand absently playing with long dark hair, as she listened to her girlfriend's choked sobs. Looking up, Ino's heart almost broke at the sight of Hinata's tear-streaked face and she found herself kissing the tears away. The other girl blushed and buried her face against the blonde's chest in an attempt to find more comfort.

"Ino-chan, I love you." Hinata said, her fingers entwining with the blonde's.

"I love you too." Ino answered honestly, stroking the other girl's head with her free hand.

Hinata crying became quieter, eventually being drowned out by the silence of the forest.
