(Page 444) why I suddenly wanted to run from the room.
And I did.
I quickly grabbed Edward's hand and pulled it away from my face and ran out his door. Running through the tears, I jumped down the stairs and into the hallway. I wasn't paying attention in Edward was following me or not. But at that moment, I really didn't care. As I reached the last step, I ran across the living room and out the front door. I quickly jumped into my truck and closed and locked the doors. I started the engine and turned the heater on.
But where would I go? I couldn't go home because then Charlie would ask questions. And I couldn't go back into the house. So I just sat there and cried. When I took a quick glance out my window to see if he followed me, I noticed his shadow on the third floor bedroom. It was his bedroom. So he hadn't followed me. Good.
Then I heard loud crashes from his room. When me head snapped up to see the window, I didn't see anything, but I heard a growl.
I kept the heater on until I fell asleep.
I awoke to a knocking on my door and a chattering noise. When I looked out my window, I saw him. He was outside holding two blankets in his hands. I looked at the clock and it was about 2:00 AM. He knocked on my window again and was shaking the blankets and pointing to them. Now I was really confused. But then I looked at my arms and I knew why he was holding the blankets. My arms were covered with goosebumps. And the chattering noise were my teeth.
I opened the car door and took the blankets without looking at him. I wanted so much to go back into the house. My truck's heater went off because the gas ran out so I couldn't start it. If I stayed in my truck, I would freeze because the blankets would just end up on the floor because I move a lot when I sleep.
"Can I come in?" I whispered, still not looking at him.
He didn't answer. I looked up at him and his face was expressionless. But then his head nodded and he turned away and started walking back to the house. I followed silently behind him. When we approached his room, he opened the door and I glanced inside. But then he quickly closed it. I knew why he did. Inside his room, everything was smashed and broken. The floor was covered with glass and broken CDs. What had I done!
"Stay here," he said, his voice flat.
He slipped in and out his door in less than a second. I don't know what he grabbed, but he quickly lifted me and ran down the stairs to the living room, set me on my feet and ran to the couch and made a bed.
"Is it okay if you sleep here tonight?" He asked.
I just nodded my head. I slowly walked over to the couch and lifted the blanket and crawled into it. And the next thing I knew, I was asleep.
I woke up and found that I was being rocked back and forth. I was in Edward's arms being carried up the stairs. When I looked at his face, his face was white, looking forward. I was wrapped in blankets and I was extremely tired.
When he looked down at me, he asked, "Do you want to walk? Or do you want me to keep on carrying you ?"
"I guess I'll walk." I replied, my voice hoarse.
He set me gently on my feet and started walking. When we approached his room, he opened the door and let me inside. Had he cleaned it? The room looked perfect and all the CD cases were on the shelves. I looked at the clock and it was 2:15 AM.
"Do you want to go back to sleep?" He asked.
But I couldn't answer. I collapsed right there and landed in Edward's arms. His arms swept me up and carried me to his bed. He set me down and pulled the blankets over me. He sat on the edge of the bed and waited until I was asleep. It didn't take very long.
