Noah sat curled up on the couch with a goofy grin across his face, his big, dark eyes glittering happily in the light of the fireplace. The TV was on but Noah wasn't really watching it, the channel he had been watching had been switched to something else without him noticing.
Eva tossed her dark ponytail over her shoulder, twirling a crowbar between her fingers like a baton. It was her nightly finger exercises, just in case she someday needed to break a bone with only her pinkie. Sighing, she went over and tapped Noah on the shoulder with one long, sharp, unpainted nail. Noah turned and flinched slightly at the sight of the crowbar in the angry girl's hand.
"What are you sitting there grinning about, Brainiac?" Eva growled. Noah couldn't tell if she was growling in annoyance or if that was just the way her voice sounded. He liked to think that he and Eva were friends, despite her seemingly constant annoyance with him.
Noah's smile grew bigger as he stated happily, "My Duncan's coming here."
Eva's heart swelled a bit in size as she showed her much hidden sensitive side and set the crowbar down to reach over and tousle Noah's hair with a small smile on her lips that she usually reserved for Justin.
"I heard," she stated simply, patting Noah on the shoulder before picking up the crowbar yet again. As she began to leave, she heard Noah call out to her.
"The crowbar's working. Your fingers almost tore my hair right out of my scalp," he remarked. Eva smirked.
"Let that be a warning to you, Brainiac – I wasn't even trying. Imagine what I could do if I was," Eva warned, winking dangerously. Once she was out of earshot of Noah, she muttered to herself, "That kid's boyfriend should come home more often. It makes him much less of a sarcastic brute."
