"La-la-la," a 6-year-old Tenten sang, as she skipped down the sidewalk. Her chocolate brown eyes shone, and she couldn't stop smiling. Why? Because today was her play date with her bestest friend in the whole wide world, Neji Hyuuga! She was so excited; she hadn't seen him in over a week. Grinning up at the clear, blue sky, she didn't see the large rock that was on the sidewalk in front of her.
THUMP!
"Ouch!" Tenten cried, holding her slightly scraped knee with both hands. She felt tears gathering in her eyes, and sniffled. No, she mustn't cry today. It was supposed to be her special play day with Neji. It was supposed to be fun. It was supposed to be a day filled with laughs, not tears.
She got up slowly, wincing at the slight sting in her knee. She sniffled again, and started limping towards their special hangout spot, hidden in the forest. Unfortunately, she didn't see that other rock that she was doomed to trip over today.
THUMP!
"Ow!!" Tenten wailed, now holding both of her stinging knees. A few tears fell, but she managed to scowl viciously at the innocent-looking rocks that had managed to ruin her day already.
"Dumb rocks!"
"Tenten? What are you doing?" Tenten looked up and wiped away her tears. Neji was standing in front of her, peering at her wounded knees. He blinked at her, and asked," Are you ok?"
"I tripped over those dumb rocks! Twice! Now my knees hurt." Tenten scowled again at the rocks, and looked up at Neji. She asked," Can you help me up?"
"Your knees still hurt?" Neji asked, and sat on the sidewalk next to her. He continued," Whenever I get hurt, my mommy kisses my boo-boo real nice. Then, she gives me a treat for being so brave! Do you want me to do that for you?" Tenten brightened.
"Really? And would you give me a treat, too?" Neji nodded. He said," Sure!" and gently kissed Tenten's injured knees.
"All better!" Neji smiled, and stood up. He helped Tenten up, and then pulled out two packs of chocolate pocky from his pocket. He handed one to Tenten, and ripped the other one open.
"And here's your treat for being so brave!"
"Thanks, Neji. You really are my best friend. Now, wait 'till I tell Mommy about the evil rocks! She'll tell Daddy, and Daddy will tell The Rock Man to stop leaving his rocks everywhere!"
"Really? Your daddy can do that?"
"Of course! After all, he told the monsters under my bed to go away."
