This is a very short partner piece for 5 things that never happened. Probably not very good.

Uther Pendragon is better at pretending than his son.

5.

Uther pretends it is not a heavy burden being King. He pretends he is not afraid and alone. He pretends he knows everything when in fact he knows almost nothing. He pretends to be a strong king like he hopes Arthur will be. He pretends he has no weaknesses.
For Arthur.

4.

Uther pretends Igraine died in childbirth. Not exactly a lie but he pretends no magic was involved. He knows if his son knows the truth he will blame himself. He wouldn't want to put his son in that positon so he pretends there was no magic at his son's birth.
For Arthur.

3.

Uther pretends he doesn't see the lingering looks Arthur gives his manservant. He pretends he doesn't see the touches on the arm or the shoulder that last just a bit too long. If he sees them kissing in the shadows he looks the other way.
For Arthur.

2.

Uther pretends that he has no regrets when in fact he has far to many. He never intended to be such a cruel tyrant. He was once a young man very much like Arthur, very much in love. He pretends he doesn't regret magic at his sons birth. He pretends he doesn't regret banning magic so suddenly. He pretends because if he admitted his regrets he would be admitting he is a bad king, a bad role model. He keeps his regrets to himself.
For Arthur.

1.

Uther has got so good at pretending that when he sees the giant that was about to kill Arthur drop dead suddenly he pretends he doesn't see the flash of gold in Arthur's manservant's eyes. To find out that boy, his friend, whom he loved. Was a sorceror what he had been brought up to hate and to see him executed would break Arthur so Uther pretends he saw nothing.
For Arthur.
