Why Me?

"We're not moving," Mutt complained.
Indy peeked out of the truck under the tarp. "No, I guess we're not."
Oxley, who was asleep, was the only one not upset by the news.
Marion pulled back the tarp. Before them stood a strange pair of young men.
"Who are you?" Indy demanded of the taller dark-haired boy.
The boy pulled a wooden stick from his cloak before answering. "My name is Riddle," he answered in an icy British accent.
"Riddle?" said Mutt. "Who you trying to kid, kid? Are you guys brothers? 'Cause you look a lot alike."
The younger boy twitched.
"What are you doing here?" Indy asked, ignoring Mutt completely.
"That is what I would like to know," Riddle answered. "We were out for a walk round the village and suddenly we found ourselves on this overgrown road in the middle of nowhere."
Marion sighed. "It can only mean one thing."
The others stared at her.
"Come on, Indy, it's not that hard. We're not moving. Ox is sleeping through pandemonium. Random people are showing up...and they seem to be stuck too!"
"Oh, please," Mutt groaned, "not this."
Indy sighed. "I'm afraid she's right. Our author is taking another sabbatical."
"Which means?" Riddle asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Which means we could be here a while."
"I told you I heard something about her moving several states over or down, or whatever," Mutt said, pouting. "No one listens to me. So, what's your name?" he demanded of the boy with black hair so messy Mutt was dying to lend him his comb.
"Harry," the boy answered stiffly. Then he winced and looked at the older boy as if afraid of being chewed out.
"Well, Riddle and Harry," said Indy, "you may as well come in and sit with us. It could be a while."
"Oh, boy," Mutt said with mock enthusiasm, "another three months in limbo! This'll be so much fun!"
Harry and Riddle climbed into the truck and sat cross-legged on the floor.
"Muggles..." Riddle was muttering with a look as if there were something dead and rotting in the truck.
As Marion began making introductions in her motherly way, Indy took a deep breath and looked to the heavens. For the hundredth time on this insane journey he thought, Why me?

Yes, folks, I'm moving. No idea what my computer/internet situation will be when I arrive there. But I want you to know that I am still planning to finish both Riddle's Legacy and the Journey Home. My life may be too busy to work on them for some time, but check back once in a while. As I said, I'm not quitting! Love you guys!
