One Time Lapse in Judgment- A Grey's fan fic

"Forget it. It was a one time lapse in judgment. And as fun as it was it's not happening again," Izzie explained to Alex as he eyed her hungrily while she gathered her things from her locker and pulled her hair into a messy ponytail.

"Oh, it was a four-time lapse in judgment," Alex rebutted cockily, waggling his eyebrows.

Izzie rolled her eyes and headed off for rounds.

Over the next three weeks, Izzie found herself staring at things rather regularly. Staring at the two lines on the pregnancy test that seemed to scream "POSITIVE!", staring down the toilet bowl in the early hours of the morning, staring at Alex's petrified face when she told him she was pregnant, staring at Addison when she informed them they were having twins during their first ultrasound and staring at Alex when he told her he loved her and wanted to marry her.

She stared at that ring for what felt like hours. Simple, not too expensive, just right.

She stared into his sad eyes when she told him she couldn't marry him.

"Why?" he asked.

"I... I want to marry you. I do. But I don't want to marry you because we are having kids. I don't want to have to get married just so our children won't have to go from house to house every week, I don't want to have to get married so my kids think they weren't an accident!" She explained.

"Iz, I love you. I've loved you for a long time. I've wanted to marry you for a long time. The fact that you are carrying my children is just another reason for me to love you," Alex replied.

With that, Izzie accepted his proposal. They were married a month later in a simple ceremony in which family and close friends attended.

Now here they sat almost eight months later in a clean, pristine hospital room, the setting for one of the most joyous events of their lives. After an excruciating 15 hours of labor, the Karev twins were brought into the world, each weighing a healthy 7 pounds. Hayley Erin and Anna Sheree Karev were almost exact replicas of their mother, bright blue eyes and already showing signs of Izzie's natural blonde curls.

Isobel Karev sat up in the hospital bed, nursing newborn Hayley, Anna in her fathers arms as he sat next to his wife on the bed.

"Wasn't just a one time lapse in judgment after all, was it?" Alex commented, gazing lovingly at Izzie who was doing the same to their daughter.

"I guess not," Izzie admitted, "Then again, I didn't think it ever would be," she added.
