Don't Fight Me

A high pitched sound, steady and rhythmic. His body felt strangely heavy and out of sorts.

He opened his eyes to blurred vision, his glasses clearly absent. Disoriented, he attempted to sit up and feel for them, audibly wincing as he experienced an unexpected jolt of pain from various parts of his body.

"Don't try to move." A familiar voice said, the hands of its bearer easing him back into his original position. He couldn't make out the face without his glasses, but knew the voice.

"Wordgirl?" He remarked, puzzled. What was she doing here?

"You're in the hospital Tobey." She informed him. "You had an accident."

"Where are my glasses?" He asked, still feeling a bit off balance.

"They're right here." She replied. "Hold still while I put them on you." She instructed, placing the glasses on his face and restoring clarity to his vision.

"Ah, Wordgirl, so nice to see you again." He remarked with a bit of light humor. He then took a moment to examine himself.

Much of his body was covered in casts and bandages, his head included. He could feel them under his hospital gown as well. Some injures appeared to be considerably less severe than others. But one way or the other, he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

"What happened?" He asked.

"You fell off a building." She replied.

"Ah..." He said, briefly recalling the incident.

He'd been in one of his usual confrontations with Wordgirl when the hand of a falling robot had accidentally struck the building he stood on, causing part of the roof to crumble and sending him tumbling over the side. For the first time, Wordgirl hadn't been swift enough to catch him. One of his own robots had unwittingly delayed his rescue. He would have to include protecting his safety as a prime directive in all his future robots.

"They say you'll be ok." Wordgirl continued, bringing his thoughts back to the present. "But you nearly weren't."

"Well, I suppose it will take more than falling off a building to dispose of Theodore MacCallister then." He remarked in a halfhearted attempt to make light of the situation. Wordgirl's expression told him she was in anything but a lighthearted mood.

"You nearly died Tobey." She said, taking a decidedly serious tone. Her voice as well as her expression then softened as she looked away, sighing as she continued. "I saw you fall. I heard you hit the ground. I watched you laying there bleeding with parts of you bending the wrong way! And what could I do about it? Nothing! If that ambulance hadn't gotten there when it did, you wouldn't even be here right now! Tobey, this can't happen again!" She said, her voice a mix of emotions as she faced him once more.

"Well I assure you that I'll be more careful in the future." He replied. "It's not as if I enjoy sporting the mummy look."

"I'm not asking you to be more careful Tobey. I'm asking you not to fight me anymore." She said, her eyes pleading with him. "I just... I don't think I could deal with it if something like this happened again." She continued, no longer facing him directly. He could see the pain in her eyes even still. He could see that he, his actions, had truly hurt her, perhaps more so than he'd hurt himself. He sighed.

"Very well." He said. "Perhaps we could play checkers instead."

(A.N) This is for those who wanted to see me do more Wordgirl material. Hopefully, it is to your liking.

Disclaimer-I don't own Wordgirl. I don't pretend to own Wordgirl. And I'm not making any money off this story.
