Author's notes
Trying not to be quite so OOC for this fic. Not a song fic either, though there are plenty of songs called "Haunted". Also, Sebastian talks about how being hungry makes food yummy in chapter 26.

_____________

Ciel pretends to sleep. He knows Sebastian knows he's awake, but the demon walks out of the room all the same. But he doesn't leave. Sebastian is always with Ciel, watching, waiting patiently for the day when the contract will be over. The boy pretends that the demon cares for him. He pretends that the demon really is just an extraordinary man. Some days he fools himself completely into believing it. But in his heart, he knows Sebastian is simply waiting. Starving for his soul, but he is patient.

'Why don't you eat other souls?' he asks out of curiosity in the morning, as the demon hovers behind him, servant and master all at once. The red eyes widen in surprise, but that knowing smile appears on his face all the same. Ciel thinks it looks smug. Confident. It makes him shiver a little.

'I think the young master knows why,' he replies, watching the boy. Ciel's visible blue eye narrows as he glares up at the demon.

'I want to hear you say it,' he hisses back, and Sebastian's smile grows.

'The greater the hunger, the more delectable the food,' he answers. Ciel turns away from Sebastian, back to his work. Yes, he knew this. He'd heard him say it before.

'So why ask what you already know, young master?' There's a long pause before Ciel decides to answer.

'None of your business.' Sebastian's smile stays firmly in place.

'Let's not get too curious now,' he says, his voice deepening just slightly, his eyes glowing just a little threateningly. Ciel bites his tongue, choosing not to snap at the demon.

Ciel looks at the contract on his eye in a mirror, holding his fringe back and looking in close. He wonders if the strange markings are a language, if they mean anything to those of the spiritual plane who see it.

'Sebastian,' he calls softly. He doesn't hear the demon enter the room, and jumps slightly when his reflection appears in the mirror.

'You rang?' he asks calmly, watching the boy's reflection.

'Does this mean anything?' Ciel demands, pointing at his eye. Sebastian's usual smile appears. He nods slowly.

'Well? What does it say?'

'It outlines our contract, and it gives me ownership over your soul. No matter what any other may do, your soul is mine,' the demon says simply. Ciel shudders a little.

'Yours,' he whispers back, mulling the thought over in his mind. Thinking about it, he wasn't sure if his goal was worth it.
