Summer

Chapter 1

Rewritten and reposted on January 8, 2014. I really hated this original chapter. What was going through my mind. At least the majority of the other chapters don't make m cringe.

Whoever said turning thirteen was awesome was a liar. Other than becoming a teenager, being thirteen was horrible. Puberty sucked! Why did our bodies have to do strange things? The growing taller thing was fine, I was all for that. Harry actually surpassed me in height now. About time too, he was getting tired be me making fun of him. Mind you, he was only about two centimeters taller than me, but he still liked to rub it in my face. However, the other things that came with growing up, I wasn't a fan.

I was lying on the floor, doing work for History of Magic that was spread out all around me, while Harry was doing his own thing at the desk by the window. Why did the teachers decide to give us work over the summer holidays? Wasn't summer holiday supposed to be a time to relax before being hammered with homework? Apparently not.

"What a way to spend our birthday," I mumbled aloud. "Staying in our room and doing work. It's such a nice day out. What do you say we skip work today and go for a walk?"

"I would, but not everyone can pass their way through classes. You can, I just want to get this over with. I can't believe we have to take this class again," Harry rubbed his eyes. "Have fun."

"I will," I tossed the quill aside, tied my shoes and left our room. "Don't stress yourself out too much."

The sun was out and shining, it was the first time in two weeks that had happened, and if felt good to not have a sweater on when I went outside. Hands in my pockets, I made my way down to the playground and took a seat on one of the swings. I smiled at the little kids running around from the slide to the seesaw. They had no cares in the world. If only life for Harry and I would have been like that. If mum and dad were still alive, maybe we could have had a childhood like that. One full of love.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Damn it, I would know that voice anywhere. "Happy Birthday, Birthday Girl!"

"What are you doing here, Polkiss?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at the boy who was not so scrawny anymore. "Can't you see I'm busy?"

"You don't look busy to me," he said, taking the empty swing beside her. "You're looking good. Have you been working out?"

"Why are you asking me questions?" I asked. "Can you leave please? I would like to spend my birthday away from assholes like you."

"Why the harsh language, doll face? I thought we were doing well?" Polkiss asked. "I can't wish you a happy birthday?"

"Only my friends can. You are not my friend, therefor you cannot wish me a happy birthday," I told him, standing up, this trip to the park obviously ruined. I would rather do homework than be with this loser. "Get out of my space please."

"Without your birthday kiss, I don't think so."

"Yeah, how about no," I pushed him back. "Thank you for ruining a birthday that was going somewhat well. Have a nice day."

"What's go you so fired up?" Harry asked when I got back. He was not reading something while sitting on his bed. "Do tell."

"Polkiss was being a jerk as usual," I sighed, falling onto my bed. "What are you reading?"

"Birthday letters from our best friends," Harry replied. "You have some too. There's one from Ron and one from Hermione. And then there was one from another owl. I have no idea who it's from."

"That sounds suspicious," I picked up the envelopes. "How nice of them. You know this is starting to turn into a normal birthday. It's the first one we ever had."

"Happy Birthday to us!" Harry exclaimed.

"In deed," I ripped open the first of the two letters. "Could Ron's handwriting get any worse? Dear Haylee, I already told your brother the big news, ask him if he hasn't told you yet, but I would like to wish you a Happy Birthday. Thirteen, that's a big one, I hope you and Harry have a great day. From Ron. How nice and easy. I take it that the trip to Egypt is going well if he wrote about it to you."

"Yes, he even said that his parents are going to get him a new wand too," Harry answered. "About time if you ask me. Could you imagine what school would be like if he had to use that wand again? Who knows what would happen."

"That would be horrible," I opened the second one. "Ah, Hermione, thank you for writing so nicely. Happy Birthday, Haylee! Welcome to the teenager club. I am so happy that I am no longer the only female in the club now. I hope that you have a wonderful day and you get some presents this year. While in France I saw these and I thought you would like them. I know how much of a sweet tooth you have. I hope to see you and Harry in September. Love from Hermione. Oh, look at this! She sent me an entire box of macaroons. I knew there was a reason we kept her around."

"Lucky, she got me chocolate," Harry said. "Who's the last one from?"

"But they are French chocolate," I insisted. "And I'm getting there. Since you are so snippy about it, I'm not going to read it to you. How do you like that?"

"Rude," Harry said. "You are such a mean sister."

"But you love me," I grinned, taking a look at the final letter. "Well, look at this."

Dear Haylee,

This might be a bit of a surprise, getting this from me, but I just wanted to say Happy Birthday. You might be freaking out as to how I know. I have my ways. Anyway, I hope you have a nice day, and I'll see you at school.

Draco

"Well that was unexpected," I folded up the note. "Don't worry, Harry. It's just another birthday letter. No need to get all prissy about it."

"Who says I'm getting all prissy about anything?" he asked.

"I can tell by the look on your face."
