Not Into Dancing

She's not sure what to make of Angel's dancing. How can somebody so attractive suck so much at it?

She smiles awkwardly at him when he looks her way. When he turns away again, she pretends not to notice how he jabs his hands in the air and how his feet shuffle uselessly across the ground. She acts, in fact, as if she isn't even aware of him and what he's doing. Surely he doesn't expect her to hang around while he looks like that!

She strikes up a conversation with a man suited up and looking very professional. Though she finds it weird that he keeps saying "legen-wait-for-it! dairy!", she talks to him because he looks like he could be somebody important. He could be the answer to her prayers, a man who will finally see her for the brilliant actress she is and offer her a job. If not, at least he will provide a distraction from the flailing limbs on the other side of the room.

The suit offers her a smarmy grin and suggests they take things into the next room: an empty room. Declining, she pushes on the front of his chest and tries not to show too much disgust at his implications in case anyone else is watching her. Maybe there's someone else interested in her talents! Maybe... what is Angel doing now?

Her mouth falls open slightly. A blonde has swept him into her arms and they're swaying together slowly. Angel looks like he's in pain. The blonde is beaming and mouthing rather graphic suggestions as to what she'd like to do with him to her friends. They turn and she catches Angel's eyes. He grimaces.

She shoots him another smile as bright and cheery as she can make it given that he's got the blonde growth clinging to him. To show him anger or misery that he's allowing this other woman what he won't allow her is not an option. She abruptly turns and the sleazy suited man waves at her. She glances at Angel again and then narrows her eyes. The suit approaches and she hurries away from him and towards Angel.

"Mind if I cut in?" she says, basically ripping the blonde out of Angel's arms and wrapping her own limbs around his. The blonde squeaks in protest but Angel does nothing to try to get her back and she moves off in a huff to her friends, all of whom glare at them."I thought you could use an intervention," she tells Angel.

"So you're not just trying to escape from that guy?" He nods off at the suit who's glowering at them even more than the gaggle of women.

"If I wanted I could easily humiliate him," she covers. It's a lie. They both know it is. But she sticks with it and tries to play her part as best she can. "You on the other hand..."

"I've been to hell, Cordelia. This is bad but I have seen worse, remember?"

"Well, still."

He looks at her and the corners of his eyes crinkle as he smiles. "Thank you."

"No problem!" she says cheerily.

After a minute, he pulls back from her and looks down into her eyes. "You don't have to do this. Dance, I mean. With me."

"Why wouldn't I?" His dancing is much more suitable for outings like this one, she decides, when it's dancing to a slow song. He does well at slow dancing.

"I know I... this isn't my scene. You know."

"I know. But don't you want to just have some fun? Before we go, I mean."

His smirk is ironical.

"No? You don't want to have fun?"

"I'm sorry. I'm just not that into dancing."
