The Dark Rainbow

I was always all alone…

She wasn't the most beautiful nor the most intelligent woman, but she was a determined woman, so she was just enough for me. I didn't fall in love at first sight, but I did fall in love with her at the end.

Sakura Katsumoto was the only daughter and heiress of the Katsumoto Empire and my father thought that an alliance between the two families would be good, so we got married six months later.

The first month was strange indeed. If you look at we both you would say that we were two strange people living in the same place, nothing more. But I don't know why, she wished to change our lives, our perspectives and so she did.

It started with a small talking, a "How are you doing?", "Good night", "Let's have dinner outside?" and then my monosyllabic answers weren't been enough neither to her nor me. I was the one starting the conversation now and she was just glad asking and answering me.

One day I arrived angry at home. I don't remember the reason, but when she saw me, she just held me and said to me not worry, everything would be fine. NOBODY has ever been this nice to me without wanting something back, but there she was, helping when I needed the most. That was when I fell in love with her, but the most important thing: I found out that I wouldn't be alone any longer.

One year later she told me she was pregnant. I didn't know what to say, so I just held her close to me. Later that night I woke her up, I was afraid of this "father thing", I just didn't know how to be around this child, how to behave myself and how to educate him. She said that everything was okay and that I would do fine. "I will be there for you", she said. So when my first child was born I just let myself enjoy the moment, I would worry about the future later, but I knew I wouldn't worry that much, because she would be there.

Life was easier with her around so was having our next two children. But the problem started when she got pregnant again. She was having a difficult time. There were times that the pain just wouldn't go away and she suffered and I suffered as well.

When this child was born she was gone. She didn't make it. So I just took the child to home and buried my heart with my dead wife. I didn't stand been beside my children for a long period of time, so I just created a routine that would make me distant and close enough of them.

My younger son, Kyouya, he was the worst of them. He looked so much like me in appearance, but he was his mother's son. He wasn't the most beautiful nor the most intelligent man, but he was a determined young man.

When Yoshio Ootori found out that his own son had saved the family business, buying it himself, he couldn't be happier; because he saw in Kyouya his lovely wife and remembered her words…"I will be there for you."

She was there after all, alive in their children. After that he didn't feel alone, not anymore.
