A/N: This is my response to the NFFR Winter Challenge: A new start or beginning. It's written in a very, very vague style, as Jill meets the Pevensies for the first time. The idea is that as she meets them, it opens up a whole new life for her after she is "accepted" as a True Friend of Narnia by the Pevensies.

Take a breath, shoulders back. Head lowered, eyes up. Pull the hair from your eyes. Deep breath again. Hands together, behind your back – no, in front. Deep breath. Lick your lips. Smile – not too big. Curtsy – try not to wobble. Where's Eustace's hand when you need it? (But there's no reason to fear.)

Say hello, greet them by name. High King Peter. Deep breath. King Edmund. Don't stare. Queen Lucy. Smile again. Queen Susan. Laugh with her, and don't take offense. (But really, what does she mean by that?) Deep breath, keep smiling. Here's Eustace. Don't ask about Susan – you'll learn later. Say yes. Look them in the eyes. Smile. Say no. Let him take your coat. Don't jerk when your hands touch. (And don't think about touching royalty!) Deep breath. Say yes, please, one sugar.

Relax. Take Eustace's hand. Sit down. Deep breath. Don't look shocked when Lucy speaks. (But she sounds so old!) Smile. Be polite with Susan. Answer the question. Ask one in return? – no, not yet. Answer the question. Smile, deep breath. (Feeling braver?) Smile. Deep breath. Ask a question. Don't look shocked at the answer. Pretend you understand. Nod, smile. Take a sip. Nod again. Deep breath. Try not to stare. Don't ask where Susan is going, or why she is leaving. Say goodbye. Take a sip. Deep breath.

Narnia. (And suddenly, you aren't so worried anymore.)
