There was no rain; in fact, the sun was shining brightly, what one might call a perfect day. That would be so, if not for the dying teen lying in a man's arms just inside a forest.
The teen, his blond hair brushing against his eyes, gazed up at the sky, knowing it would be his last chance. His mind turned to the man whose arms were holding him tight when he started to speak.
"This wasn't meant to happen Alex" The man chocked between sobs "I was supposed to protect you"
Alex smiled slightly. The knife in his stomach moved but he felt no pain, not anymore.
"It's not your fault; I went off on my own. You're not to blame" His voice was weak but the words were perfectly clear.
The fact that Alex didn't blame him made it all the much harder. Tears flowed harder down the man's face and he held the boy closer, determined to let him know there was someone with him before he…left.
"Pull it out"
The man looked down at Alex in shock "But you'll die imme…oh"
Alex gave another smile directed at the man and then looked at the sky.
"It's such a nice day…"
Eagle couldn't hold back the chokes in his throat as he gripped the knife handle which was warm to the touch.
"Thanks Eagle…I'm going to see my parents now"
"Good, goodbye Alex" Eagle whispered.
Eagle pulled the knife out… and Alex met his parents for the first time.
