OLYMPICS ARE TOO AWESOME!
Disclaimer: OLYMPICS! And I thought this prompt was two days ago, fail.
What People do for Love
As promised, the following day, Arthur was dragged to the closest hamburger selling restaurant and was presented with a tray with said item along with "fries" since Alfred refused to call them chips and insisted that they be called by their proper name. England wanted to argue the point that they were theoretically called "French fries" just to bust his chops, but the older man didn't feel like getting into an argument as of yet.
"So it's easy. You use your hands, don't use a fork and knife. You can't add anything to it, 'cause I made sure to order it already perfect. And you can't remove anything from it either. And for the fries, you have to put the ketchup in a corner of your cup and then dip your fry in it. You can't just pour ketchup over your fries and then eat them. That's not the American way. And when you sip your soda, you have to--"
"Alfred, SHUT UP! I know how to eat food. And if I want to slurp my burger, then so help me God I will!" England was still trying to remember why he had agreed to this and if it was really that important for America to try his fish and chips.
"Of course it was, Arthur. Anyone who hasn't tried that is missing something. Unlike this tripe Alfred is so fond of." He thought to himself.
"Hey, I'm just making sure that your experience is awesome and that you get the full potential out of it. And you can't slurp your burger, that's just wrong!"
"Just give me the food before I decide that I'd rather go to sleep alone for the rest of my life. Why do I even bother?" Arthur snapped back. Sometimes he really wondered what he saw in the younger nation or why he went to such troubles for him.
"Because he's your adorable git, that's why."
"Alright, alright. Now get ready for the greatest explosion of taste in the world. This will be beyond anything you've ever had before. Trust me, you'll be awed, you'll be amazed. It'll be like falling in love all over again. You'll--"
"I get it, it'll be good. Now please, let me eat in peace." Alfred made a motion to lock his lips and watched with rapt fascination as Arthur took his first bite of the hamburger. This was even more exciting than the coin toss at the football games. He watched as Arthur chewed the food and swallowed. He then took a fry, dipped it in the ketchup and ate it. There was silence. Then he took a long and loud slurp from his drink.
England tried to distinguish the many different tastes of what he had just chewed and swallowed. It definitively wasn't his favourite, but it wasn't as bad as he had envisioned. It had a very distinct taste and as he nibbled a bit more on the burger, he found that the second bite was better than the first. Almost as if he was growing used to the taste.
"And…" America asked after a full minute of silence from the first bite that England took.
"I've had better and I've had worse." He replied sincerely. America smiled. He had been expecting something like that.
"Alright, I'll let you go with that. But trust me, one day you'll crave for one of these babies now that you've tasted one."
"As if, that'll never happen."
"Never say never, Iggy." And somehow, Arthur was afraid that America was right.
OWARI
I don't like my ending, but the Olympics are on. So maybe I'll rework this later.
