AN: This is based after the first Avengers movie, but before Age of Ultron. No spoilers I believe.

LadyKarma18 requests Harry/Clint (Avengers)

"..Guys? I think I figured out what that thing is after." A quiet voice came over the coms, barely heard over a thunderous scream that muffled the sound of sirens, and explosions that came with a lot of their missions as of late.

This had started as a standard operation. Between Jarvis and what had been intercepted by S.H.I.E.L.D the Avengers had learned that A.I.M had secured something their scientists had never seen before. The chatter had picked up quickly, and while no one had any idea the terrorist group had obtained, they knew it had to be removed quickly from enemy hands. Iron Man, Thor, and an unchanged Bruce Banner had kept close but away from combat - on deck with even Iron Patriot on standby should things get out of hand.

It was Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye who entered the warehouse with a number of unnamed SHIELD agents. Casualties and explosions were kept to a minimum. This was an information retrieval mission. They were to capture who they could for further questioning, and keep the computers intact if at all possible. Most of the building had been cleared when the walls shuddered and claxons sang as frantic calls of agents came over the coms followed by an impossible angry roar.

The team scattered throughout the city as they tried to deal with the mayhem all around them. Half the team, the more grounded part was dealing with what was left of the AIM bunker. Agents securing what was left of the facility as the rest of the Avengers joined the fight and tried to take down the beast that had assaulted them. Pearled scales gleamed under flashes of lightning, as smoke and the smell of sulfur filled the air. Strong wings bore the large scaled creature back as it's neck arched and a large plume of flame scattered the agents on the streets below.

"What is it Birdbrain? Can it get rid of this thing? Just because I'm in armor and certainly shining, I'm afraid I forgot my sword." Ironman snarked as he fired a few quick blasts from the repulsors in the palms of his suit, only to dodge to the side as the dragon swung its head around to snap it's sharp fangs where he had just been only seconds before.

"It's a baby." The archer reached into the small cage, mindful of scattered broken pale gray shell and sharp kitten like teeth and claws as he picked up the deceivingly delicate looking creature. Multi-colored eyes looked up at him, distrust and fear easily read as a forked tongue tasted the air. "A baby dragon, I'm guessing AIM stole something not belonging to them and momma isn't too happy."

"I cannot say how the dragons of Midgard compare to those of the Nine Realms in temperament, but even if these beasts are much smaller, their temperament compares. These foolish men did not know what they were dealing with when they crossed such a creature." The thundergod's com went silent as he called down another blast of lightning, forcing the dragon away from his comrad if only for a moment. "Quickly, bring it to the surface and we'll return it to this creature."

"It's not as simple as that. Where did these two..dragons come from?" A husky female voice cut off the Asgardian over the coms and she met her partner as they quickly ascended stairwell after stairwell.

"That would be where we come in." An amused male voice came over the com as a sharp orange light flew across the sky and struck the large dragon's underbelly. Clint Barton also known as Hawkeye ran out into the streets with his partner Black Widow at his side, guns at the ready as the archer's hands were full with a struggling dragonette.

They watched as four figures flew toward the dragon, in a tight formation only to separate at the last second as another bright red fireball lit the sky and sent them scattering. Each one of the four bobbed and weaved around the fierce dragon, firing bright flashes of multicolored lights at the beast, slowly forcing it down to the ground with what appeared to be a bright gold net stretched across its back and wings.

"Thanks for your help. We've been hunting these poachers for weeks." The voice came again, this time with a cloaked figure that was crossing the street. Easily side stepping falling debris as the other four figures worked at attempting to subdue the angry dragon who was still resisting their attempts to contain her.

"Who the hell are you?" Clint tightened his grip on the small dragon, observing the figure who stood casually before them. Gloved hands held up innocently on either side of his head, showing he was unarmed even though it did nothing to relax the two agents. Bright green eyes shown with amusement as he met their disbelieving stares and shrugged as he slowly lowered his arms.

"Agent Potter of SHIELD. W.A.N.D specifically." The man grinned before his attention focused on the dragonette and a slow series of hisses left his lips. The small creature chirped and claws dug into the leather of the archer's bracers as it tried to leap into the man's arms. He held them out for the creature, easily catching it as it tried to fly with it's underdeveloped wings. "It's probably best that I return the little lady to her mother. Try to explain that your scent is all over her because you were trying to rescue her."

"You can talk to that...dragon?" Widow arched a brow as the man gently scratched the ridge over the dragonette's eye, making the tiny thing practically collapse in his arms with only what could be considered a purr.

"If she'll listen to me." Potter turned and trotted away towards the mother dragon who had resumed her struggles as large multicolored eyes settled on the newborn dragon in his arms.

"Really Barton?" Widow turned and looked at her partner, rolling her eyes as she watched the man she had worked alongside for years. She had seen the expression a number of times now, and while she couldn't really claim she was annoyed she knew the look tended to lead to frustration, amusement, and generally a large amount of alcohol as she watched her partner make a fool of himself.

"Hey, at least we're technically considered consultants for SHIELD now. Fraternization rules no longer apply right?" The archer grinned at his long suffering partner before his gaze locked on the young man who finally set the dragonette down in front of it's mother, watching with a pleased smile as it scampered happily into her claws.

"You're an idiot."

FIN.

Dragon is an Antipodean Opaleye. Generally non-aggressive, but when a baby dragon is kidnapped, momma isn't holding anything back.

Well, it only took...six years? But I'm considering this work finished now. I apologize for being away from this world so long. My goal is to edit some of my previous works, improve and finish them. Thanks to those who have been supportive for all these years.
