You're Cameron
The silence of his room was disturbed as the mismatched blur of color sailed through the still air, the journey towards its destination marked by little more than a quiet whistle as it left his hand.
Cameron watched as it collided with the wall, the mismatched fragments of the once whole robot falling out across the hardwood floor with a clatter, spilling into the corner of the room. "You're upset." Her voice was low, almost timid. "It's Riley?" He glanced at her face, her eyebrows knit in concern.
He didn't respond as the silent rage and disgust overtook him, the feelings so powerful, so all consuming that he trembled as he continued to stare at the fragments of the robot laying on the floor. Shuffling backward across the room, he lowered himself to the floor, sitting against the bedpost. Breathing slowly, he felt a deep exhaustion engulf him. He couldn't help but close his eyes as he drifted into sleep, still propped up against the bed.
Cameron remained standing, looking down at him. Her head tilted as she considered waking him, but she deemed it better that he sleep. Approaching him slowly, she knelt down beside him and sat. She looked down briefly, before returning her gaze to him, those dark eyes focused on his face as she hesitantly brought her arms up around him and pulled his dormant form to her as she leant back against the bed. Her gaze never left him as they remained there on the floor.
He could feel the warmth radiating from her, still wrapped in her arms as he awoke, his head resting on her chest. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he looked up at her, the moonlight from the window casting shadows across her face. His voice was hoarse as he spoke. "What are you doing?" She looked down briefly as he pulled away from her, sitting up. For a moment she looked crestfallen.
"You're angry at me?" Her voice wavered slightly. It was more a statement than a question. He paused, gazing at her for a moment. "No." He whispered. He looked away as a wave of self-disgust washed over him. He reached up to rub his eyes. "I should have left her months ago." Her head tilted at the revelation. "I knew what she was... and... I used her to push you away."
She looked down, turned her gaze away from him. He saw a twinge of hurt on her face, but her eyes said so much more. His voice choked with guilt as he spoke. "I... I'm..." He paused, feeling his words would sound false. "All I can say is... I'm sorry." When her gaze didn't return to him, he felt the desperation overtake him. He shuffled closer to her, raised his hand to her face and cupped her cheek, forcing her to look at him.
She brought her own hand up to grasp his, pulling it down, away from her. Her face was stoic, but her eyes betrayed her. "I'm just a machine, John." She made to stand, but he pulled her back down to him.
"No... You're so much more than that." He pulled her close to him, wrapping her in a tight embrace. "You're not just a machine... you're Cameron." He placed a gentle kiss on her brow, then moved to bury his face in the soft locks of her hair. He whispered into her ear. "You're my Cameron."
A/N: There have been quite a few requests to have this oneshot expanded into a full fic. When I wrote this back in June or August of last year, I had no plans on a continuation. In fact, I had never considered it to be more than a oneshot, but now that I look at it again in more detail, it has the potential to become something more.
I'm not going to make any promises on when this will be continued, but there will be something after this. Where will this oneshot fit in? It will likely become part of a larger prologue, with rewrites and polishing as needed.
