(Yet another Song Shuffle challenge. I'm getting addicted to these... ^^

Disclaimer- I don't own Yu-gi-oh nor this song! They are the properties of Kazuki Takahashi and the band Paramore respectively.)

We are Broken- Paramore- Yugioh

The doors of in the Tomb slammed shut with an outstanding sense of finality. Yuugi tried so desperately hard to stop the tears coursing down his cheeks, but couldn't. He could taste salt on his tongue as he stared at the carvings on the door, hardly able to comprehend what had happened. He could hardly see past the pool of liquid in his eyes.

Yami was gone. Truly gone.

No, Atem was gone. Yuugi supposed that the spirit deserved to be called by his name. He owed him that much. After everything the spirit had done for him, the least Yugi could do was get his name right.

While he'd tried so hard to be strong for Ya- Atem when he was here, now that the stone doors separated them, Yuugi was free to break down, which he did promptly.

Yuugi didn't feel the shaking of the ground nor notice the stones falling as the tomb collapsed. He was frozen outside, numb inside. He felt as though something inside him was cracking wide open. A hand grabbed his arm, pulling him backwards and out of the path of a large block of rubble. The same hands physically lifted him out of the Tomb and into the bright Egyptian sunlight. They gently set him down on the soft, warm sand. Yuugi didn't stand up. He couldn't. The crushing loss smashed into him with all the force of tornado.

"He left." Yuugi whispered towards the sand, "He really left."

Yuugi felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to see his pain reflected in Jou's eyes. "I know bud."

In that second, something inside Yuugi that had cracked snapped, was torn to shreds and then shattered into infinitesimal pieces. His friends shared his haunted look. Anzu was biting her finger to stop herself from sobbing. Yuugi wasn't sure that things would ever return to the way they were, that they could ever fixed.

Under the Egyptian sky, Yuugi realised something in one bright, shining moment of realisation. All these years, Yami had been the thing which bound them together, the thing which allowed them to hold themselves together despite all the danger they'd been through, and without him, they'd fallen apart. They'd been broken into so many pieces that not even Yuugi, solver of the Sennen Puzzle could put them back together. They been had broken, and that's the way they would stay.

(And there we have it. Review if you enjoyed. ^^)
