Chapter 12:
It had been a few weeks after Rachel's birthday and to say the least, the group was bored. Although Melanie was less bored and more stressed out about Michael's upcoming birthday in a few weeks and trying to get the fundamentals of her wedding planned and down on paper…not that Johnathan was helping with the planning at all.
"Hey guys," Tina said as she sat down and curled up next to Mike. Their relationship had both surprised and not surprised people at the same time somehow. Mike smiled over at her and kissed her on the temple. The group looked up to see Rachel walking toward them with Puck. He had his arm wrapped around her shoulders and was leaning down to whisper into her ear as she giggled up at him.
"Hey, you guys." Mike smiled at the pair.
"Oh, Rachie did you get my text in second period today?" Melanie asked while still looking down at her papers for Michael's birthday in three weeks. He was only turning 3 so she didn't want to go too crazy with the planning but she figured she should still make it fun for him and for everyone that was going to come as well.
"Yes, I did get it but are you sure you'll be able to handle it with all the planning and lists that you're making for the wedding and the party?" Melanie gave Rachel a grateful smile before looking back down and nodded
"Of course a little break will give me just the right amount of energy I need to finish planning his birthday party." Rachel nodded her head
"And just what are you two devious cousins' talking about?" Puck asked as he pulled Rachel tighter to his chest as she sat on his lap. Melanie smirked into her notebook before reaching over to her bag and pulling out an envelope and waving it at him. He gave her a playful but still slightly annoyed glare but let it go before taking the envelope and looking inside.
"What the hell is K-Con?" Melanie smirked
"It's where we'll performing our dances for that little bet you made." Puck's face drained of color while she smirked and Rachel quietly giggled behind her hand.
"You didn't think that we forgot, did you? Hope you bitches have been practicing." Melanie said giving Puck a vicious smirk
"Damnit," Mike whispered
"It's this weekend in LA. I already talked to the convention that's hosting it and they sent our plane tickets with our passes and we'll stay at my Daddy's house while we're there." Rachel gave her a surprised look.
"Wow, Mel you've got this all figured out."
"I.. or well Daddy set it up after we made the bet a few months ago. It was pretty easy and I guess the Convention had an act back out or something so they needed to fill the spot anyways." Melanie said still writing in her notebook.
"What spot needed to be filled?" Kurt asked as he and the rest of the group walked up and sat their food down next to the others at the table. Melanie mentioned for Rachel to tell them with her hand while she bit her lip and texted Jonathan.
Melanie snuck a look at the others and noticed with devilish glee that all the boys seemed to pale as the realization hit them that they still had to go through with the bet that they all forgot about.
"Hope you all practiced, make sure you're packed. We fly out on Friday at 10 am and then we'll go to my Daddy's house and then maybe explore before the convention on Saturday." They all nodded in a slight daze.
"You really get stuff done, don't you?" She shrugged before she packed up her bag right before the bell rang signaling that lunch was over and they had to get to their next class. She smiled at the boys before she grabbed Rachel and walked off to their next classes.
"Sometimes… like now, I really don't envy Johnathan." Puck said as he chuckled before throwing his backpack on his shoulder and walking with the others to their class.
After school, and practice was over both groups met up in the parking lot to see Jonathan's jeep parked while he held Michael on his shoulders, while their son played and tugged at his hair rocking back and forth. Melanie narrowed her eyes at all the girls surrounding him before she flounced over; her cheer skirt and high ponytail bouncing as she struts toward her fiancé and son.
"Mommy!" Michael yelled gaining the attention of all the girls fawning over him. They all turned around to see Melanie with a sweet smile on her face.
"Hey, peanut." Jonathan smiled as she shoved a few girls out of her way to stand in front of him before holding her arms out for Michael. He lifted his squirming son off his shoulders and placed him into his mother's arm. "Did you have a fun day with Daddy today?" Michael squealed with laughter as she tickled his sides.
"Hey, princess," Jonathan said he bent down and placed a kiss on her forehead while he kept a light hand on Michael's head.
"Hey, Jonny." Rachel smiled at him before turning to scowl at all the girls still gathered around them pouting and whispering. "Have a nice day girls" the girls looked over at her, recognizing her dismissive tone before scowling, glancing at one another, at the group and then turning on their heels stomping off.
"Vultures all of them." She said as she wrapped Puck's arm around her shoulder while leaning into him.
"That was kinda hot babe." Rachael blushed as he whispered in her ear just what her bossy tone did to him while squeezing her against his side. She wrapped her arms around his waist and giggled as he began to nibble on her ear lobe and then moved down to her neck.
"Gross," Santana said with a playful sneer on her lips before she rolled her eyes and smacked Puck upside the head to tear his lips away from Rachel's neck. He turned his head slightly to glare at her before going back to what he was doing causing the others to roll their eyes and chuckle at the pair.
"Just leave them, Tana, God knows how long he's been fantasizing about being with her but being too scared to do anything," Quinn said in her bitchy head cheerleader voice, but the others could hear the playfulness in it and knew it held no malice or bite.
"No need to be a bitch Q, just cuz' you aren't getting any Finn lovin'." Rachel pulled away from Puck to kick his shin. "Ow, shit babe! What the hell?!"
"Don't be a dickhead Noah." Puck pouted at her before nodding his head at Quinn in what she knew was an unsaid apology.
"And on those many curse words that I'll have to wash out of Michaels mouth; I think it's time to go home," Melanie said as she balanced Michael on her hip with Jonathan wrapped around her shoulders. The group said their goodbyes while Melanie shouted at them to make sure they packed for their flight.
The group gathered around two large taxis trying to get all their luggage into the trunks, as well as get Michael into her father's car without a huge fuss. After Michael was put in her father's car, she gave Jonathan a kiss and sat in the front seat with her father's driver. Both taxi drivers were given directions to follow her car.
After a 45-minute stress filled car ride through the traffic filled streets of LA, the group finally parked in the driveway of Melanie's father's house. It was a large white mansion with a fountain in the middle of the courtyard in front of the house.
"Holy shit." Jonathan nodded his head at Puck.
"Just come inside." Melanie rolled her eyes. Walking into the large house, she gave Jonathan a look who nodded taking Michael into his arms, grabbing Michaels's bag and took him upstairs.
Following Melanie further into the house, the gang noticed a woman sitting on a large chaise lounge drinking wine. When the woman looked up and noticed Danny and Melanie standing in the doorway, she scoffed and rolled her eyes.
"Back so soon? You disappoint me, Melanie, I was sure you would last a least a bit longer." Rachel ground her teeth together next to Quinn and Santana who were just looking at the siblings confused.
"Oh starting early on the wine there I see. Daddy ignoring you again?" Megan narrowed her eyes before smiling tightly. The tension in the room between the three was so heavy, the gang thought they would suffocate.
"Of course not, your father and I are perfectly happy." Danny scoffed quietly, before winking at Melanie. "I can't see how your father will be happy that you're here and not in school. I'm sure you won't be able to graduate if you continue on like this."
"It's weird to see you worrying about me Megan since you never did before. However, you don't need to worry about me graduating, I'm right on track, which is more than you can say for yourself." Melanie smirked, while Megan slightly seethed in her seat still sipping her wine.
"Good. Seeing as how you're so positive you'll graduate, you're that much closer to being on your own with that child of yours, who I don't see here right now, did you find someone to watch him while you went off on your little adventure with your school friends?" Rachel took a step forward towards the woman only to be held back by Melanie.
"Oh, step-mother dearest. Michael is upstairs with his father in his room, I don't like to be away from my child any longer than I need to… Unlike you." Melanie gave Puck and Quinn a look of apology asking them not to take her words to heart.
"You shouldn't speak of things you know nothing about." Megan's voice had hardened into stone. While Melanie just smiled at her.
"Don't I, though? You're very chatty when you aren't sober." Melanie's wording of that sentence let the others know just how often Megan wasn't sober.
"My it's no wonder that you're mother left. I'm beginning to understand her more and more each time you visit." Megan smirked into her wine glass, sure she had the upper hand.
"And every time I visit, I'm beginning to see why your son wants nothing to do with you after you abandoned him. Danny, Rachel, your son and myself should get together and make an 'abandoned by our shitty mothers' club'. What a wonderful idea, don't you think? I'm sure he would happily join." Melanie said smiling her mean little snake like smile. The others in the group were becoming increasingly uncomfortable with this odd insult battle. Thankfully the tension was broken when they heard Jonathan call down the stairs for Melanie.
"Excuse me I have to do something that you're entirely unfamiliar with, taking care of my son." The group followed Melanie out of the foyer and up the stairs.
"You two always like that?" Mike asked.
"Pretty much, believe it or not, they used to be worse." Mike's eyes widened thinking about what could possibly be worse that what he just witnessed. Rachel looked at all the others.
"We should all probably leave; we still have things to do before the performance tomorrow and I'm sure Mel would like to see her dad and Jonathan probably wants to take them to see him mother, so let's go." Rachel ushered everyone out of the room, with Melanie sending her cousin a grateful look.
Later in the day, after taking Michael to see his excited grandmother and spending a little time with her father the large group of teens sat around her family's huge dinner table; much to the happiness of Richard, Melanie, and Danny's father, and the silent annoyance of Megan. Danny was busy explaining how he had recently been offered a role on a new show coming up towards the end of next year, to the great excitement of Rachel.
"So you all are going to be performing at this convention tomorrow? What are you doing?" Richard asked. Rachel than explained to him the whole reason why they were performing to K-Pop songs in the first place causing Richard to laugh loudly into his tumbler glass
"A little helpful advice for you two boys." He said looking at Puck and Jonathan. "When it comes down to it, these two girls are always right. No matter how strongly you believe them to be wrong, they aren't, trust me." Melanie smirked at Jonathan who made a kissy face back at her.
The convention center was full of people even this early in the day. The glee gang worked their way through the crowd toward the backstage area of the stage. After being greeted by management and shown where they could change, as well as hang over their music choices they began to get ready for the day.
The group decided that the girls would go first and then the boys would follow their lineup of with the corresponding group of theirs. Out on the main stage, the MC was telling the crowd about the group and their little bet. When he announced that the reason the bet was made was because one of the boys said that guys were better at bands than girls, the crowd booed while the Mc laughed. After he explained that there would be two groups, one all-female and one all males, he went on to tell the crowd that both groups would be performing to four songs each; 2 girl group dances, and 2 boy group dances and with all the members in at least one performance; and asked the crowd to pick the best group to decide the winner of the bet.
The crowd began to scream once the music started to play and the screams became almost deafening as "Blood Sweat & Tears" by BTS blared over the loud spears. Backstage Danny bit his lip while he watched his baby sister and her friends dance to the song.
"We might be fucked, guys. They aren't going easy on you." The other guys shared nervous glances sing they were next. Luckily, or unluckily, however, you view it, Danny had vetoed that dance since he knew the choreography would be too hard for a few of them. When the girl's performance was over they all walked backstage breathing hard but grinning at the guys as they listened to the screaming crowd.
"You're up next boys," Santana said smirking as she walked past them. Puck glared at them as the all giggled at their sailor outfits. Thank god they had convinced Danny and Kurt they weren't wearing the damn skirts no matter wat the damn music video costumes were.
After a highly embarrassing dance performance to Apink's song "NoNoNo" where all they did was shake their hips and asses (to which all the guys began to wonder how any girl performer put up with the embarrassment of shaking 'what their mamas gave them' for millions of people without wanting to crawl under a rock.) the guys went back behind stage and waited for the girls to do their second dance.
"How are they dancing in heels?!"
Once again the crowd began screaming loudly after hearing the first sounds of BΛLƆKPIИK's new single 'Playing With Fire" began playing. Only Quinn, Santana, Brittany and Melanie were dancing this time.
"One thing about my sister is she knows how to pick the best songs to work in her favor. It might be hard for you guys to win the bet, they pick the newer songs with the better choro." Puck glared at him not wanting to admit that they had lost. Once the four girls were done, they walked back and motioned for the guys to take the stage, no longer giggling at their costumes, since they were all thankfully back in street clothes. The guys walked out on stage waving at the crowd before getting into place as Shinhwa's song "Perfect Man" began playing to the happiness of the crowd who began their ear shattering screams once again.
"This was a good pick for them. Manly but easy enough dance moves for Finn to follow along, but still visually nice to look at. Danny did a good job." Melanie said sipping her water.
"Do you think you guys will be able to keep going?" the girls gave her a look that made her almost scoff at her own stupid question. "I'm glad we practiced another routine, just in case Apink song wins them a vote and ties us up." The others nodded while adjusting their garter belts underneath their skirts.
The girls walked onto the darkened stage before Quinn and Brittany sat down on the ground. Before they knew it, the lights flashed back on and "Miniskirt" by AOA began playing.
"Ah, so they're going with sexy/cute/sensual vibe with their song picks. Fuckin' shit." Danny said laughing slightly annoyed. It wasn't his bet, but he still hates losing.
The other three performances went nearly the same. The Boys performed to 2PM's song "Heartbeat," and "Clap your Hands" by 2NE1, which made Melanie and Rachel shake their heads in annoyance; while the girls Performed to "Hide & Seek" by ASTRO (each girl wearing a headband with different colored bear ears attached to them to add to their cuteness level), which made the boys wonder if they had taken that pill that Rachel had given them when they first did this VS thing and they were all much too energetic for their own good. Once all the dances were over both groups came out onto the stage where the MC had the crowd cheer for who they wanted to win. Leading the girls to win a large amount, causing Puck to almost curse if it wasn't for Rachel pinching him hard enough and Melanie and Santana to grin their mean little snake like grins, making all the guys nervous.
The gang decided to stay for the rest of the day to check it out, they ended up taking pictures and given many compliments on both of their performances. They even went to a room filled with other people all dancing covers to other K-pop songs. They even danced to the songs they danced to and the girls danced to a few others that they learned as well. At the end of the convention, everyone was tired as they dragged themselves up the stairs of Melanie's house to get some sleep before going out in the morning.
Well holy shit, look who isn't dead. A lot of people have been adding this story to their favorite list and their follow list so it made me a little inspired to write. I feel like this chapter was actually the hardest. It took me too long to pick out the songs for them to dance to for the bet. but I finally updated yay.
Thank you to everyone who is still reading this story even though I update so randomly and kinda few in between. Thank you really. Review if you feel like it and tell me if you've never listened to any K-pop song before what you thought of the songs and the dances if you ended up looking them up to see for yourself. Blood Sweat & Tears is a personal favorite of mine.
Lots of love!
