Authors note: Well this epilogue was going to have Rex reporting to the Jedi Council as well but I deiced not to make it to long and just have him report to Chancellor Palpatine. Enjoy.

Epilogue: Rex's Return

Captain Rex once again found himself walking down the hall to Chancellor Palpatine's office. After the Merciless landed on Coruscant, a group of Senate Guards arrived to escort him to the chancellor's office for a debriefing. Despite the nap Rex managed to get in he was too tired to resist and went with the guards to the shuttle that would take them to the senate building.

When they reached the door to the office the guards stopped at the door and Rex entered the room alone. Unlike the time he was here to get his mission, the only one in the office was the chancellor himself. The room also seemed darker for some reason but after running around the barely lit hallways of the droid base on Felucia the room seemed bright to the captain.

Palpatine stood with his back to the clone captain looking out the window in his office.

"You wanted to see me, sir?" Rex asked him.

Palpatine turned to face the clone and smiled.

"Yes of course Captain Rex, please have a seat," Palpatine said, gesturing to chair in front of his desk.

"Thank you sir, but I'd prefer to stand," Rex told him.

Palpatine just nodded and moved to sit at his desk.

"Now, the reason I called you here is because I would like to hear from you personally on how the mission went," Palpatine told him.

Rex shifted, a little uneasy, before answering. "The mission was a…the mission was a success, sir, the base was destroyed along with the weapon Emotion was making there,"

"And Captain Emotion?" Palpatine asked.

"He died" Rex answered, pausing before adding one last bit. "He died along with all of the men I took with me and Master Floraroma,"

"I'm sorry to hear that," Palpatine told him.

"They knew what they were getting themselves into when they agreed to come on the mission," Rex told him.

"I know captain, it's just a shame they had to die," Palpatine said, grieving. "At least they didn't die in vain. The mission was accomplished and once we look at Emotion's research we'll be able to use the weapon to end this war once and for all,"

What Palpatine said at first didn't register with Rex but when he suddenly picked up on it his heart skipped a beat.

"What research?" Rex asked.

"Why the research on the weapon Emotion was building of course," Palpatine answered.

"I wasn't aware that was a part of the mission, sir," Rex told him.

"I had asked Commander Tech to retrieve the research for me so that we could use the weapon against the Separatists," Palpatine assured him.

Rex gave Palpatine a questioning look before saying. "Commander Tech was the imposter droid Identity in disguise. He was using the disguise to get us to investigate the base so that he could rescue Captain Emotion,"

Palpatine's jaw dropped.

"That can't be, Commander Tech has been one of my closest clone advisors for years," Palpatine said in disbelief.

Something wasn't adding up. Identity had confessed to making up the disguise as a way to get the Republic into investigating the droid weapon's base. If he had used the disguise before, as Palpatine is suggesting, then Rex would have heard of Tech before and had been more familiar with his reputation and the fact he could hack into Separatist bases, but since Rex had just heard of Tech and met him before the mission began he was beginning to become suspicious.

Could Chancellor Palpatine be the evil Emotion warned him about? If that was true then why don't the Jedi know about it? If the evil Emotion warned him about is in fact a Sith Lord then shouldn't the Jedi have been able to sense his presence? Palpatine may have seemed like a shady character at times but then again all politicians were like that. Could it be that this mysterious Sith Lord is manipulating Palpatine? Whatever the case was, Rex decided not to question it until he got more facts. Emotion wasn't the most reliable source but there was still something weird going on with Chancellor Palpatine.

"Captain Rex, are you listening?" Palpatine asked.

Rex was taken from his thoughts by the chancellor's question.

"What, yes of course, Chancellor, my apologies I got lost in thought," Rex told him.

"Then I'll ask again, did you manage to get the research? I'm sure Emotion would have taken a copy of it himself that you could have gotten from him," Palpatine repeated.

"No, sir, Emotion destroyed the research himself," Rex lied.

Palpatine gave him a puzzling look before asking. "And why is that?"

"The weapon had gotten out of his control and he realized that if either side got their hands on the weapon it would mean the end of the galaxy. So to prevent anyone from learning about the weapon he destroyed all the research on it," Rex answered.

Palpatine pondered this, as if he didn't believe the captain before saying. "Well then if the weapon was as dangerous as you are making it sound, then I suppose it was a good thing that the research was destroyed,"

Rex nodded in agreement.

"Well thank you for telling me yourself, Captain Rex, you are free to go and I look forward to reading about the rest of the mission from your report," Palpatine told him.

"Thank you, sir," Rex told him.

Rex then saluted the chancellor before leaving. He then went to the clone station on Coruscant where he typed up his report and sent it to all the necessary places. After which he was sent back to Kamino for a psyche evaluation and some rest and recuperation.
