"Before you went away, I could kill Time. I killed Time over and over, weeks and weeks of it. But then I went to Salazen Grum, do you remember that? The Knave showed me a secret, in the dungeons. Time can scream, Alice. It can feel sick all over, and cry a little when it thinks no one is watching. But mostly, Time can scream."

Alice was holding on to his fingers very tightly. "Would you like to know another secret?" she asked. "One from me?"

Tarrant licked his lips. "Yes."

"Sometimes, Time can be very brave." Alice said in a firefly voice.
