Three Is Better Than Four.

Amy knew their youngest son wouldn't take the news that she was pregnant very well. He had been the baby of the family his entire life after all.

But, she hadn't expected Gabe to take it quite as badly as he did.

Argument, after argument about how bringing another baby into the family was such a bad idea.. Gabe was like a dog with a bone in his efforts to convince his parents that having another kid was a stupid, insane, crazy idea.

Amy thought he had finally given up, until he slammed into the living room.

"Three is better than four." Gabe announced.

"Sorry?" Amy raised an eyebrow.

"All the best things come in threes," Gabe explained. "The three musketeers, the three wise men."

"That's only two things Gabe," Teddy said gently.

"I have more," Gabe reassured his older sister. "There's three rings on Neptune, three corners on a triangle. Donald Duck has three nephews,"

"I thought he had two?" PJ interrupted.

"No, he has three, Huey, Louie and Dewey." Gabe corrected. "There's three tenses, past, present and future."

"Isn't there like, seven in French?" PJ piped up again.

Gabe didn't speak French, so he didn't bother answering.

"There's three little pigs, in Harry Potter, there's Harry, Hermione and Ron," Gabe continued to reel off his list. "There's three forwards in hockey, there's three power puff girls, and that TV show 'Ed, Ed and Eddy?' There's three people in that too."

"Gabe, honey-" Amy began before Gabe interrupted her desperately.

"There's sayings all about threes- three of a kind, threes company, third times a charm." He said quickly. "And, 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle', there's three words in that!"

"Gabe," Amy said again. "Stop talking for a minute, and hear me out honey."

Gabe looked at his mom, waiting for her to continue.

"Good things come in fours too sweetheart," Amy pointed out. "There's four basic food groups, four seasons,"

"Four Beatles." PJ added.

"Four bases in baseball," Bob joined the conversation. "And there's the 'Fantastic Four'."

"Humans have four blood groups," Amy said, her job shining through in her argument.

"Four branches of the armed services." Bob was on a roll.

"Butterflies and dragonflies have four wings," Teddy piped up. "And four elements, air, fire, water and earth."

"Chairs have four legs," PJ said after a pause. "Three legged chairs just don't work as well."

"And there's going to be four Duncan kids," Amy finished. She held her arms out for Gabe to join her on the couch.

The 10 year old did so willingly.

"Don't think just because there'll be another baby around that we'll just forget about you," Amy said to her son. "PJ survived Teddy being born, didn't he?"

"And I survived you being born." Teddy pointed out before adding under her breath, "barely."

"See? It'll just take some getting used to honey." Amy said with a smile.

Gabe sighed. "I still think three is better than four."
