Felt a little burst of inspiration to visit Bonnie, Damon and Giovanni. Hope you enjoy.

If I owned it Elena would be dead no just sleeping waiting for Bonnie to die

Late Night Memories

Bonnie Bennett-Salvatore picked up the picture sitting on the dining room mantle. It was a photo of Damon cradling Giovanni in his arms as he sang him a lullaby. It was a candid shot Bonnie had captured when she returned home from lunch with Caroline and Elena when Gio was 5 months old. At heart Damon craved belonging to a family and the surprise of getting to be a father to Giovanni was something that Damon both loved and feared. Bonnie herself was stunned and in shock when she realized she was pregnant with Gio A little research found that on rare occasions vampires could conceive with witches. The conceptions been so sporadic, that most vampires and witches thought vampire/witch hybrids were a myth. Which is what Damon believed and never bothered telling Bonnie that there was a chance she could get pregnant.

Bonnie reflected on her pregnancy and the first few weeks of Gio's life. If she hadn't known Damon so well, she probably would have killed him. During her pregnancy he barely let her lift a finger. He was fascinated by the changes in her body and little afraid on the changes in her moods. But what terrified him was the tiny, café au lait skinned, 8-pound ball of flesh that was placed in her arms 7 months after announcing her pregnancy.

Flashback:

17 years earlier Bonnie and Damon's house

Bonnie was sitting on the couch snuggling with her 3-week-old son. Today was Gio's official welcome home party. After weeks of her bodyguard husband limiting her visitors to only Elena, Stefan and Caroline, everyone else was finally getting a chance to meet Giovanni Bennett Salvatore. Stefan came to over to sit beside her, staring in awe at his nephew.

"He's gorgeous, Bon. I still can't believe you and Damon actually had a baby," he said reaching for the baby.

Gio looked up and batted his blue eyes at his uncle. He gave him a smile and then passed gas as Stefan's patted his diaper covered bottom. Gio gave a contented grunt and closed his eyes. Both Bonne and Stefan let out giggles at these actions.

"He's going to be his father's son, it looks like," Bonnie said with a smile, "the joke will always be on you, Stef."

"I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't know if I have every thanked you for all you've done for Damon. You gave him the love he desperately needed and I will be in you debt forever."

"Stefan, I love your brother and as happy as I've made him; he's made me even happier. There is nothing I need to be thanked for."

"Well, let's just agree to disagree on that point. I know how awesome Husband Damon is, but he seems a bit apprehensive with Gio. What's going on with him?" Stefan asked.

"I should have known you would have noticed he's like a feral cat with the baby," Bonnie replied. "I think he's just scared. Protective and possessive, per his usual but doesn't want to get too close in case-."

"In case he may hurt his son," Stefan finished. "I couldn't help but notice I've never seen Damon hold Gio."

"He hasn't. Don't get me wrong, he watches over us very closely. And he's caressed and kissed Gio but he hasn't held him," Bonnie said. "He'll be fine Stefan, he just needs a little more time to realize what we already know. He's going to be a great father."

"Yeah he is," Stefan said, just a confidently as Bonnie had.

Two weeks later, Bonnie woke with a jolt. Her breasts were sore and full, indicating that she had missed Gio's 2am feeding. She couldn't believe she had slept through his crying. She jumped out of bed not bothering to notice that Gio wasn't crying or that the other side of the bed was empty.

When she walked over to the bassinet she realized it was empty and immediately started to panic. She turned around; ready to scream for Damon when she saw that he wasn't in the room.

It was then she heard a soft noise coming from downstairs. She tiptoed down and was moved to tears by what she saw. Damon was sitting in the recliner feeding Gio a bottle using the pumped milk Bonnie kept on hand. Father and son were gazing into each other's eyes with matching ocean blue eyes. Damon, having heard her when she woke, looked up to her with tears in his eyes.

"He was crying and you were so tired and wouldn't wake up. I couldn't bear hearing him cry so I picked him up and he stopped crying but I could tell he was still upset because his heart was beating so fast, so I made the bottle like I saw you do. And I'm sorry if I did it wrong but he was so upset…" Damon said, rambling on.

Bonnie walked over and placed a finger to his lips to prevent him from speaking further.

"He's your son. You never have to apologize for taking care of him. That's what daddies do. I'm sure you made the bottle perfectly, otherwise Gio would still be crying. You did good, my love," she said, trying to reassure him.

"I don't deserve this," he said, voice breaking with emotion. "I have so much blood on my hands. I've done so much damage, I don't know how you can trust me with him."

"I trust you with him and my heart because you are not the same person you were before. I'm not going to argue with you about all the destruction and heartache you caused because it's true. You did horrible things but every single day I watch you try to atone for your sins because you want to be better. This isn't about deserving Gio, this about our happiness and living in the now, not the past. We made a beautiful baby together and I will destroy anyone who tries to hurt him or you," Bonnie told him.

"I'm sorry I never held him until now, I was just so scared that he would know all the awful things I did and he would hate me. Even as a baby he would hate me," Damon said. "But he doesn't, he stopped crying when I picked him up. He let me hold him and feed him and he held on to my fingers. I think he trusts me."

"He knows how very much his daddy loves him," Bonnie replied. "And he knows there is no safer place in the world than in your arms."

Present time

Bonnie was pulled from her trip down memory lane by the back door closing, indicating her husband was home. She set the picture down just as he walked into the dining room. Damon glimpsed the romantic setting she had created. Candles were burning, the table set for the two of them and she was wearing his favorite slinky, red dress with a pair of 5 inch stilettos that had "fuck me" written all over them. She reached up and pulled him down for a gentle, yet passionate kiss.

Damon's hands roamed all over her body, staying longer on her rounded ass.

"Not that I'm complaining but I'm pretty sure I didn't forget any important dates. So what's all this about?"

"Mmm we are celebrating something spectacular."

"You know I love celebrating with you but I think we should take it to our room with Gio in the house," Damon said bending to pick her up.

"No, Gio is spending the night with Stefan and Elena after his date with Sasha, so we can have some alone time," Bonnie said.

Damon immediately went on alert; he heard a second heartbeat in the house.

Bonnie, conscious of her husband tensing up said, "relax, and there is a perfectly logical explanation for there being two heartbeats in the house."

Damon screwed up his face in confusion; heartbeat was close, but seemed to echo off of something. Then a realization dawned on him as he looked down at his wife.

"You're giving me another little vitch," he said tenderly.

"I don't know how we were able to conceive a baby twice but it happened. I'm having another baby," Bonnie said, smiling the most radiant smile.

Damon spun Bonnie in his arms. He still didn't believe he deserved her, Gio and now their new baby but he sure as hell was going to hold on to them.
