Doctor Charles Murphy was an educated man in his early 50s. He was a doctor of neurology. If you were to look through his official Blue Sun biography, his job was designated in marketing, but that was his cover. Fifteen years ago, he and his partner Dr. Mathias were put in charge of an academy of gifted young people. These people came from all over the 'Verse and he was given free reign over them all. Without the endless red tape from the ethical public, he was able to study the minds of these geniuses and condition them to be the perfect assassins in the blink of an eye.

River Tam was his crowning achievement. He found her. Dr. Mathias used her as his poster child for the program, but she was his find. Already sensitive, or psychic if you believed in that sort of thing, it didn't take many of his sessions to bring out the qualities necessary to kill. What killed countless other "pupils" made her stronger. Her escape from the Academy itself showed off her ingenuity, her brother's ability to plan, and his partner's fallibility. When his gloved agents failed to bring her in, he sent an Operative of the Alliance. The Operative was able to take care of his failure of a partner, but was unable to obtain her. This made him both furious and proud. She may be less than sane thanks to him, but she was clever. It was a shame she let the Operative live, but he took care of that mistake. That compassion must be eliminated. The perfect assassin could not have the flaw of mercy.

Charles sighed and ran a hand through his graying brown hair. He was sitting in his office on the I.A.V. Fuxi, the ship commissioned for his use from the Alliance last year. The Alliance wasn't thrilled at the idea of giving him a ship to find one fugitive, but all it took was one reminder of the other secrets she may have gleaned from them with her abilities. The Miranda scandal was nothing compared to what some of them had done. They couldn't give it to him fast enough. Once he had a crew to actually fly this thing, he began his search slowly. She had been given plenty of time to feel secure and let her guard down. Now it was time to bring her home. There were a million little ideas floating around his mind on how to make her better. He just didn't know how to draw her out again. The cost of putting that code out in the advertisements was shēhuá and now it would have to come from his own pocket. He didn't have the funds this time around.

"Sir?" James Walker, his assistant for the last ten years, walked into his office. When Charles was a professor on Osiris, James was one of his students. Eager to learn more about the human brain, he signed on to the Academy project to be Charles' intern immediately. As time went on and James learned more about what the project entailed, James became less and less enthused. While Charles was intrigued by the many deaths and severe reactions in the "pupils," James became more subdued and withdrawn. When one young man went ballistic and ripped out a young lady's throat with his bare hands, James attempted to hand in a letter of resignation. Out of loyalty to the boy, Charles refused to take it and told him what would happen if he tried to leave this top secret project funded by the Alliance. Since then, he stayed loyal to Charles, but he was not happy.

"Yes, James?" he asked.

"There was an anonymous tip sent in to our ship concerning the Tams." This comment piqued his interest. There hadn't been a tip on the Tam siblings in months. He put down River Tam's file to give James his full attention.

"It was rather specific. The message states that the two of them will be on Londinium at the Ministry of Intelligence research laboratory in two days' time." James handed a copy of the message to Charles. As he read it, James awkwardly shifted his feet.

"This is very specific."

"Yes."

"Well, let us send our friends in Londinium a message stating our intention to visit the laboratory."

"Yes, Sir." With that, James walked out as quickly as possible. Charles walked over to send a wave to his wife and children. A visit to Londinium would set back his homecoming a few days.

Break Break Break

"What did you do that for?" The Doctor shouted at Mal. Mal didn't acknowledge him as he and Jayne moved Michael's unconscious body out of their way and tied him up in a desk chair next to the TARDIS. Drash came out, followed by Kaylee and Donna. He smiled when he saw the shed. He stroked the door and it opened. Martha looked at The Doctor as they entered.

"How did it just open like that? You use a key."

"Hana always had her TARDIS set to open for family. Only five people in the universe could ever get in." The Doctor answered.

"Ok." Martha nodded.

"We have less time than we thought. There is another inspection coming from the Blue Sun Corporation so we have to hurry." The Doctor stated.

"Jayne, let's get some eyes on the door." Mal said. Jayne moved to the door to keep a lookout when it blasted open, knocking him and Mal back into the opposing wall. In came four armed men. Behind them were Dr. Murphy and James. They surrounded the front of the group. The Doctor put his hands in the air immediately. Martha quickly followed his lead. Mal and Jayne hesitated before lowering their weapons. The armed men led them back to the group and untied Michael from his chair, where he had been quietly observing since he had woken up. He stood up and went to the front of the group. He turned away from the armed men and looked straight at The Doctor.

"What is going on here?" he asked. Dr. Murphy cleared his throat behind him and he turned around.

"Are you the one who is in charge of this…project?" he asked with a polite smile.

"Yes. I'm Michael Tibbs. I don't know who these other people are. They knocked me out. Are you security?"

"No. Where is River Tam?" The Doctor, Martha, Mal, and Jayne all exchanged looks. Michael just looked confused.

"Who? Wait, isn't that a fugitive? Why would she be here?" The polite smile fell from Dr. Murphy's face and it shifted into a look of disappointment. He turned to the armed guard to his right.

"He knows nothing useful. Take care of him." James opened his mouth to protest, but The Doctor got there first. He pushed Michael behind him and held his hands up.

"Wait. You don't have to kill anyone."

"I don't? Why not?"

"He doesn't know anything."

"If you don't want him to die, how about we make a deal? You hand over River Tam and none of you die today?" Dr. Murphy said. There was a beguiling tone to his voice that gave an indication that this deal had a loophole.

"What do you want with her and who are you?" The Doctor asked.

"I'm Dr. Charles Murphy. I'm the man in charge of the Academy she was taken from. She is currently unstable and needs to be contained by us until she is well again." The Doctor's jaw tightened and there was fire in his eyes. Behind him, Mal's jaw also tightened and his hand went to his gun as discreetly as he could so he wouldn't warrant any extra attention from the armed men. Jayne just smirked at them.

"That was a stupid thing to say," he said. Dr. Murphy looked over at him with a puzzled expression. The Doctor stepped forward and poked him in the chest, getting his attention back.

"She's not going anywhere with you," he growled. Dr. Murphy laughed.

"If you aren't going to accept my deal, how about we just kill you all now and collect her after? I will. She knows I will without any hesitation. If she is half the weapon I designed her to be, she'll have seen this coming. How will she react to that, I wonder? Ah! There she is, out of her hiding place!" Everyone turned to see River leaving the TARDIS with Inara close behind. Inara seemed to be attempting to pull her back inside. River just shoved her to the side and walked to face Dr. Murphy. Inara stumbled, but Mal caught her before she fell.

"It happened so quickly. One minute she was fine and the next she was sprinting for the door," she mumbled to Mal.

"It's not your fault." He replied.

"So River, what will it be? Are you going to come quietly and end this wild goose chase? Where is your brother?" Dr. Murphy asked. River bit her lip and looked back at the group. She teared up as she saw these armed men pointing guns at her family. She smiled sadly at each of them as if thanking them for keeping her safe. Just as she was about to turn around, Drash came out of the shed. He frowned as he noticed the additions to the group. He kept his arm back to prevent Donna and Kaylee from being seen and shut the door. The men grabbed him and pulled him into the group.

"I'll go with you quietly on one condition. They all go free." The Doctor and Drash argued loudly, but she held her hand up to silence them.

"It's the only way you all live," she told them with tears running down her face. Drash darted forward and hugged her tightly. He whispered something into her ear before kissing her temple. She looked at him confusedly and her right hand went to her jacket pocket. Drash smiled and nodded.

"Fine. Take her away." Dr. Murphy signaled two men to flank her. River paid them no attention because her eyes were locked on Drash. When they started moving, he nodded and she reached into her jacket pocket. When her hand came out, she was holding a gold watch. She examined it quickly with a look of wonder before opening it.

"What is that? Stop her!" Dr. Murphy cried out, but it was too late.

Immediately after the watch opened, every human in the room fell to the ground. They clutched their heads in a useless effort as they cried out in pain from the loud ringing in their minds. The Doctor and Drash both went to their knees before they put up a telepathic shield from the attack. They both got to their feet. The Doctor went to Martha and Michael and placed his hands on their temples. Drash moved Mal and Inara into the TARDIS and put his hands onto Jayne's temple. They all breathed a sigh of relief as the screaming stopped. Donna and Kaylee opened the door to the shed but were stopped from coming out to help by The Doctor's stern shake of the head.

"What's happening? Why is she doing that?" Kaylee yelled. Drash opened his mouth to reply, but The Doctor had actually started moving. He went over to River, who was crouching on the floor, shaking and clutching her head, near Dr. Murphy. He put his hand on her shoulder, which made her start.

"Stop this. You are killing them!" She shook her head a few times and the noise inside their minds stopped.

Hana got to her feet slowly. She quickly examined her own body before grabbing Dr. Murphy and hauling him into the chair that was previously occupied by Michael. He was barely conscious and his nose was bleeding. She glanced over at Drash who quickly moved over to the armed men. Jayne followed and disarmed them as Drash locked them in a supply closet. Mal moved over to get James, who was a little more aware than Dr. Murphy and was staring at Hana in fear. He grabbed his arm with the intention to put him with the guards, but Hana stopped him.

"Leave him here. He needs to see this."

"What are you doing?" The Doctor asked as she tied Dr. Murphy to the chair. She ignored him. Mal brought James over and sat him down on the floor next to them. James didn't say anything but watched Hana in shock and terror. Hana ignored him too as she squatted down to look Dr. Murphy in the eye. He was still woozy but managed a smug smile.

"Look at you. I had no idea you were capable of such destruction. That is remarkable. How did you manage it?"

"I'm not human," Hana answered apathetically.

"My dear, I ran a number of tests on you. I can assure you that you are indeed human." He made to move his hand to pat hers, but she pulled away violently.

"Do not touch me," she growled out. She moved around behind him and placed her hands on his shoulders. He grimaced at her strong grip.

"On my home world, I was both a gardener and a mechanic. Do you want to know what I did before that?" she calmly asked. Before anyone could answer, she continued.

"Hana…" The Doctor warned. She glared at him and held up a finger.

"I'm a strong telepath, Charles. Even for my species. When I left school, I was hired by some outside authorities. I would go into minds of those with lesser telepathic abilities, like your species, and add, modify, or remove whatever my employer wanted. I spent decades watching humans leave me and never recognize their friends or families again. I cleared out company secrets from people so that they could go back to their lives instead of being hunted for what they knew." She moved her hands to Dr. Murphy's temple. He moaned in pain as he felt her filtering through his head. After a moment, she took her hands off of him and moved back to face him.

"Normally it doesn't hurt, but I really don't like you. Dr. Murphy, what's your wife's name? Or your children's names?" Dr. Murphy glared at her before a look of fear crossed his face as he tried to remember their names. As the silence grew, a look of horror crossed everyone's face except for The Doctor, Drash, and Hana. She looked smug, Drash looked worried, and The Doctor looked angry. He grabbed Hana's arm and dragged her back a few steps.

"What are you doing? This is not how you should be settling things." She yanked her arm away.

"I am simply proving a point. Then, I'm going to make sure that what happened to me will never happen again."

"Hana, you can't…." She held up her hand to stop him.

"You have no idea about the things he did to me. He didn't just do them to me either. There were others. If you did…" She winced and rubbed her temples. Then she raised her head and looked behind her father to the crew of Serenity. They looked a little scared of her, but she could feel the sympathy for her as well. She smiled to reassure them and brought her attention back to The Doctor. She put her hand on his face.

"He can't harm anyone ever again the way he harmed me. Just trust me." When The Doctor nodded, she hugged him and moved over to Drash. She hugged him too and then went back to Dr. Murphy.

"Her name is Isabelle," James said. Dr. Murphy mouthed the name and tried to match it to the picture in his head of his wife. It seemed wrong.

"Do you believe me now?" Hana asked. Dr. Murphy nodded quickly. Her eyes flashed with anger.

"Good. Now this is what's going to happen. I am going to give you your family's names back. In return, you will receive my memories of every time you laid your hands on me. You are going to feel every bit of pain and fair I felt and watch yourself give more. Then, I'm going to wipe out all of your research notes and passwords so that you can never access any information regarding the Academy ever again. You won't even remember where it was." She put her hands back on his temple. He attempted to wrench his head away, but to no avail.

"But that's my legacy! Years of research! You can't-"

"Yes I can." With that, she started. Dr. Murphy's screams echoed around the lab long after he lost his voice as he remembered each painful experiment from a new point of view.

A/N: Special thanks to 88mouse88, R, booklvr Annie , Darck Ben, and badkidoh for the positive reviews! :) They are really great and I appreciate it so much! This would have been posted a month or so earlier, but I blame both Breaking Bad (which I Netflix binged through the whole series) and Arrow for distracting me with their awesomeness.

As for the others, here we go:

RAM: Thanks for the positivity. As for their Time Lord names, I figure if it was ok for Romana it would be ok for them. Plus, Hana never graduated so she's not actually a Time Lordess/Lady/whatever they're called. Or…maybe the universe is ending…...

Jonn Wolfe: That is a REALLY good question as to what would happen with the sonic screwdriver and the brain musher were to interact. Sadly, those guys are dead in Firefly canon before BDM comes out. Although, they aren't the only ones who have one…hmmm….maybe I'll have to write that in.
