Ella knew something was not right with her Aunt Liv.

The woman she and her mom were spending time with was not her Aunt. However, she looked like Aunt Liv (except for the bangs - those were new). She sounded like Aunt Liv. She even smelled like Aunt Liv. But Ella knew. This woman was not the Aunt Liv she had known a few weeks prior.

Her first hint was when she asked for a peanut butter sandwich. Her Aunt Liv looked at her, eyes narrowed slightly with confusion. A moment later, she smiled, nodding. "Of course, sweetheart." Then Aunt Liv made her the sandwich, albeit very, very carefully. She gave it to Ella, who tore it in half and handed one half back to her Aunt, like she always did. But her Aunt shook her head and refused, gently saying "I can't, sweetie. I'm allergic, remember?"

Her Aunt Liv was not allergic to peanuts.

It was later that week when Ella noticed small differences in her Aunt. She didn't drink wine with her mom every night like they used to. And when she would, Ella often caught Aunt Liv making funny faces at the drink behind her mother's back. She spent more time just talking to her mom, looking at her as if she hadn't seen her in years. But Ella and Rachel had been at her apartment just a few weeks earlier. She rarely wore her hair back anymore and when she did, she only wore the top half back, a style she had never worn before. She was more confident, but Rachel had just told Ella that sometimes new haircuts can do that to people.

Her Aunt Liv would sometimes forget which cabinet the bowls were in or which drawers the silverware was in. It was a subtle difference, but an unsettling one. Oftentimes, Ella would help her cook dinner when her Aunt was home. And when she started opening the wrong cabinets, Ella starting getting all the dishes and utensils. She didn't like seeing her Aunt like that.

Things took a turn for the worse when her Aunt Liv yelled at her. Ella didn't mean to break the vase and picture frame. It had been a complete accident; she was just trying to get a movie down. Her Aunt had run into the room and, after seeing that Ella was alright, yelled at her to be more careful. She apologized right away afterwards, but it didn't matter. Her Aunt never yelled at her, no matter how mad she got. She never yelled.

Something was wrong with her Aunt Liv. And Ella was determined to find out what.
