Lay off
Don't stray
Well, my kind's,your kind

wait, they don't love you like I love you

wait, they don't love you like I love you.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps

'I love you Elena.'

Her heart went out of her chest.

'And it's because I love you that I can't be selfish with you.'

The words cut off her breathing. She was not alive. She was not breathing.

She was filled with butterflies, from head to toe.

'But you can't know, because… I don't deserve you Elena, but my brother does.'

Her insides turned upside down. Her anger flared up in stomach, she bit her tongue, she willed her tears to stop. Her head screamed no.

'God, I wish you didn't have to forget this.'

A soft tear glided down his cheek. It was not even there. It was not even his. It was her own tear – their tear.

He kissed her forehead goodbye. The kiss glided down her eyes to her lips and her heart.

'But you do.'

She knew what he was going to do. Her necklace was in his hands and he was holding it tight.

He was looking at her with all the love he could take into his suffering eyes.

She wanted the moment to last much longer. Not just a couple of seconds of shattered confessions. That would never be enough. It would never fill her, it would never put the pieces back together.

Past be damned. Future be damned. The present was all that mattered.

'Wait,' she pleaded.

He frowned. He hadn't expected her to speak.

'Wait, please.'

He opened his mouth.

'Don't do it yet.'

'Elena…'

' I…I know you have to. But don't do it yet. Wait a little longer.'

'I don't understand…'

'I don't want to forget this so fast. I want to know it a little bit longer.'

He felt conflicted. He felt like there was no way to get what she wanted.

But he waited. Because their bond was beyond comprehension anyway.

'Just…hold me for a while, until I forget,' she told him and leant into his chest as his hands circled her hesitantly.

She was like a small bird in his arms and he didn't know what to do.

He rested his head on her hair.

There was no love, no lust, no feeling.

It was just them.
