Derek cards his fingers through Spencer's hair and frowns at how easily they slip through it. Spencer, who has his nose buried in a book, glances up when he makes a small, unhappy noise in his throat.

"What?"

"It keeps getting shorter," Derek says and tugs gently on an unruly tuft of hair. Spencer rolls his eyes and tilts his head out of Derek's reach.

"That's generally what happens to hair when you cut it." Spencer swivels on the couch when Derek reaches for his head again, his back against the armrest and his feet in his boyfriend's lap. Derek starts to lean forward, and Spencer puts a foot on his chest and pushes him back. "I don't get why you're complaining. It's your fault anyway."

"I apologized for that!" Derek frowns again, but his hand is gentle when he curls it around Spencer's ankle and strokes his instep. "It was an accident."

Spencer stretches out more comfortably and wrinkles his nose at Derek. "All the apologies in the world still won't get gum out of hair, Derek. Although I guess I should thank you. I think I might like it better this way. It's certainly easier to manage."

Derek's looks up, his eyes wide with alarm. "What? Are you serious?"

"Maybe." Spencer wiggles his foot in Derek's hand and grins. "Why don't you keep massaging while I try to decide?"
