Gathering readers
Hermione Granger was walking down a deserted street early in the morning, with a contend look on her face. She had good news, and could hardly wait to reach the cottage where her friends were waiting for her. After months of reasearch, she had finally found a way to create the books they needed.
She was a trainee in the Department of Mysteries. And there, there existed a large cavern, where the lives of every witch and wizard in Great Britain were recorded. Yesterday evening she had gained permission of her superiors to create seven books about the life of her best friend, Harry Potter.
At last she turned into the drive of Harry and Ginny's house in Godric's Hollow. The light was on in the Kitchen, probably Harry's aunt, Petunia, since recently again Evans. She had left Vernon, after their year with Dedalus and Hestia, because he could not change his point of view, and kept ranting about the wizarding world, insulting their protectors on every turn. Hestia had been sorely tempted to just chuck him out of the safehouse and let him fend for himself. But her respect for Harry had kept her form it. Petunia had never really loved him, but when she fell pregnant with Dudley, they had not been married, so, to avoid a scandal, she had stayed with him. Even when he started neglecting her nephew, she had stayed, for she could not provide for her son. If she had gotten a divorce then, the court would have given custody of Dudley to Vernon, so, to be with her child, she had behaved as was expected of her. Now that Dudley was of age, Petunia had taken the first opportunity to free herself from Vernon. Currently she and her son were living with Harry and his fiancé. Dudley, too, had started to realize, when living with the witch and wizard, that they were not so different from him. Just with much more extrordinary talents. He had been disappointed, that his father had not been able to let go of his grudge. Dudley understood why his mother had wanted to leave his dad, and had gone with her. They both felt guilty about how they had treated Harry over the years.
One thing was that he had ever been allowed to speak of his school, and what had been his life for nine months out of the year. They had asked him to tell them about it, but he had had a better idea. He wanted to create books, to tell the story more acurately. So now they were waiting for Hermione to find a way to do that.
Hermione opened the front door and hung her jacket on a hook on the wall. Then she went to find Petunia in the Kitchen. "Good morning, Petunia!" she said cheerfully. "Morning, Hermione, you look happy so early in the morning, did anything happen?" said Petunia, turning away from the stove. "Yes, I was finally able to do it! We can start reading as soon as everyone arrives!" declared the young witch proudly. Petunia was speechless for a second, then a huge smile, still something they all had to get used to, spread over her face. "That's wonderfull! I'll go and wake the others, it's nearly eight-thirty anyway!" with that she rushed out into the hall and up the stairs. Hermione, meanwhile went fo fix herself a cup of tea, and after sitting down at the table, pulled out an old tome, to re-read the summoning-spell to get people from different times. Harry wanted his parents to read about his life, too, aswell as Sirius and Remus.
Harry and Ginny woke to the sound of insistend knocking on their bedroom-door. "Whatsit?" murmered Harry sleepily, while Ginny was allready out of bed to answer the door. "No idea, but I'm sure we're about to find out. Better wake up, Harry, there's an owl at the window." She called over her shoulder. While Ginny was talking to Petunia, Harry let the owl inside. The name on the scroll startled him awake at last. The letter was from Severus Snape! There was no doubt about it. Harry knew the Potions Masters scrawl well, from all the comentaries on his Potions essays. But the man was dead. He had seen him die! But could he really be sure he was not just in a coma? They hadn't waited around to check. And they had not found a body in the shrieking shack; they had just assumed that the fleeing Death Eaters had taken it with them. But this letter was from Snape. With trembling hands Harry opened the missive:
To Harry Potter
I write this, because I have recently regained conciousness, and instead of waking in Askaban, I found myself in the care of a friend. I learned that it was you who cleared my name, and I thank you. I realize that you had to publish, to some extend, the memories I gave you. You probably, in your Griffindorishness, feel guilty about that. This is not necessary, I understand why it had to be done, and it was the only thing you could do. As much as I am a privat man, I'd rather have a life to live after the war, then have my secrets in Askaban.
Thank you.
Prof. S. Snape
Harry sat motionless on the bed, until Ginny came over and roused him from his thoughts. "Harry? Are you all right? Who's the letter from?"
" Here, read it, you wouldn't believe me if I told you." It was quiet while Ginny read, her eyes wide with shock. "Wow, he – he lives! Unbelievable!" she exclaimed at last. After a moment of silence, Harry remembered the reason they woke up in the first place. "What did Aunt Petunia want?" he asked. Ginny's face imidiatley lit up in a smile. "Hermione is back, and she has the books! We can start reading as soon as she has summoned everyone!" she said exitedly. Now Harry's smile mached Ginny's. Finally, after all this time! He had gone to the ministry more often then he cared to count, to confirm, and re-confirm that he was ok with releasing his life-story from the cavern of recorded life. He only hoped that Hermione could really summon his parents and Godfathers,(he counted Remus his honorary Godfather) so they could begin as soon as possible. Now that he thought of his guests, he remembered three more people he wanted to be there, Albus Dumbledore, because he had not been able to see his plan being executed, and would surely like the details. Severus Snape, because he, too, would be interested in the story, and would like the chance to see Lily again, and Minerva McGonagall, who could keep the Marauders in check, when Proffessor Snape was in the same room as them.
The couple went down for breakfast, where they met the rest of the houshold. Harry told them of his plan to include three more people, and after Hermione, too, had confirmed the letter's authenticity, she agreed.
After breakfast, Hermione retreated to the small library/study to work on the spells she would need. Meanwhile, Petunia and Dudley started to prepare the guestrooms, while Harry and Ginny whent shoping for food, and anything else they would need. Once the spell was cast, and the Time-Preservation-Bubble was up, no one could leave the boundaries of the wards. Hermione had cast another extension charm on the pantry, and time would stand still in the House, so the food would not get bad.
When Harry got back to the cottage, he sat down to write two letters, one to Professor Snape, and the other to Professor McGonagall, to invite them to the cottage for the next day. He explained as little as possible, just enough to spike their curiosity and make them come. Ron would arrive later that day, Hermione had floo-called him before working on the spells.
The owls with the confirmations from both Professors came after dinner, Hermione was confident that she could work the necessairy magic, and the house was in order. They were all set for the next day.
Professor McGonagall was the first to arrive, at ten o'clock. They had planned it this way, so they could fill her in about what was to come, and to make sure that she would keep an eye on the Griffindors. They were sitting in the livingroom with a cup of tea, when Snape arrived. Ginny let him in and brought him to the others. Harry jumped from his seat to greet him. Suddenly he was nervous, had this been a good idea? "Welcome, Professor Snape! I'm glad you decidet to come! How are you? I hope you were able to recover fully?" he said. The Professor had been looking around the room and replied: "Hello, Potter. Yes, thank you a friend of mine, who is a healer, helped me, so I am quite well. Would you care to explain why you asked me here?" he fixed Harry with a stern look. Strickt as ever, but there lay no malice in the stare now. "Yes of course, in just a moment, we are still waiting for a couple of people, and I would prefer to make that speech only once, if you don't mind." Harry looked uncertainly at his former teacher. He hoped he had not offended him. But Snape only nodded and took the seat Ginny offered. Harry nodded at Hermione, and she went into the study to sumon the remaining guests. They had thought it better to let them arrive in another room. The first to come was Remus, as he came from only two years ago. With a flash of golden light he materialised next to Hermione. He imediatly raised his wand and scaned the room, until he saw Hermione. "Hermione? What is going on? Where are we?" he asked, looking confused. Then he frowned and took a better look at the young woman. "You look older then when I last saw you at Bill and Fleur's wedding."
"Yes, I am, about two years. I summoned you to the future. We, Harry, Ron and I, wanted to gather a couple of people to hear his story. As you see, I was able to summon you from the past, now I will procede with Dumbledore, Sirius, Lily and James. Would you please stay here? It would be easier to calm Harry's Parents, sice they know you. Otherwise they might think this was an attack or something." Hermione explained. Remus just stared at her, but before he could respond, another flash of golden light and in it Albus Dumbledore appeared. Hermione noticed his blackened hand, and knew he came from the right time. This way he knew he would die, allready, and would not be too shocked about it.
He, too, reacted as if under attack, but calmed as he saw the other two. "Miss Granger, Remus, care to explain this? I was just having a cup of tea with Minerva, when I was whisked away. She will be worrying." He said kindly. "Of course, sir. I called you to the future, to hear how the war ends. I can't tell you more right now, since there should be more people arriving any second. Why don't you procede to the livingroom, and we'll be with you shortly. Minerva, from this time, is there, I'm sure she understands why you are three years late in finishing your cup of tea, sir." The Headmasters eyes twinkled, and he smiled at her. "That is fantastic, my child! I thought I would never know!" with that he left them alone once more. When Sirius arrived, Hermione repeated her explanation and asked him to stay, too. She wanted to give the friends the chance to welcome the long lost part of their group in privat.
At last everyone was there, and they all went to join the others. As they entered, everything went silent. Snape just stared at Lily, having gone pale, and seemingly speechless. After each had found a seat on the sofas and armchairs, Harry stood up. "Welcome, for the two who do not know, my name is Harry Potter. The reason you are here started with my aunt and cousin, Petunia and Dudley,"he nodded in theire direction. "They wanted to learn about my life, as I was not able to tell them befor now. After researching for months, Hermione found a way to bring my life in bookform. As each of you has a part in those books, I wanted you to have a chance to know the whole story also." Harry finished, looking at his guests nervously. He didn't like to speak in front of people. "You said your name was Potter? I don't know of any Potter by the name of Harry." James said. Snape just rolled his eyes. "Yes, my name is Potter, you will find out in the course of the first book in what relation to you I am." Harry answered. He sat back down next to Ginny. Now it was Hermione's turn to speak: "A few basics about this place, this is Potter House in Godric's Hollow, and we are currently in a Time-Presevation-Bubble, otherwise our guests from the past would not be able to be here. This means we cannot leave the wards until we are done with all the books. But don't worry, we have stocked the house with everything we will need. Also the Bubble means that the time will not move forward. Remus, you know what that means." When you leave this bubble into this time, you will be transported back to the time before you came inside, so you will not miss any appointments. Those from the past will also return to the time and place they left from." Hermione finished, and put seven books on the coffee table.
A/N: The firs chapter of the book will be posted later tonight or tomorow morning at the latest.
