Time again for me to lend

An always-helping hand

From where you firsties stand

I may look in bad form,

Don't think on it too long!

For shortly after my song

You'll head off to your dorm.

You see I control your future.

Children, I know your past.

And my first impression

Will be the one that lasts.

Of character, I'm the ultimate judge,

There's no truth you could fudge.

However, primarily, there's something you should know.

I've a bone to pick with wherever you could go.

Listen little Slytherins

For I have something to say

Betray this precious castle

And there will be hell to pay.

Ambitions aside, cunning and sly,

You won't last long at all

You're outnumbered in these halls.

I'll have no more awful plots

Nasty banter, nor taking shots

As the story goes,

Salazar chose.

But I'll kick you out unto your buttocks.

Now my little bookworms

I have some news.

There's something new to learn.

And here's a little clue.

Young Ravenclaw, there's more to education

Than living with your nose in a book.

My friends, it's called social interaction

And I suggest you take a look.

There's more to it than book smarts,

Being less stuck up is just the start.

Time to stop following the rules

Your knowledge means nothing

If the ones who really live are the fools.

Hufflepuffs, I love you.

You make the world go round

Your hard work, your loyalty,

Will never let me down.

You're always there,

When others are scared.

You've got our backs.

You'll pick up our slack.

While known to have your frets

Your goals are always met.

Despite being portrayed as being cuddly and being cute,

Those badgers are relentless and they've got claws to boot!

While I do saddle you with all the rest

Please know that, in my heart,

You'll always be second best.

And finally I mention Godric's brood

The just, the brave, the often crude.

The heroes of every story

(Though some tales are somewhat gory)

To the evil they encounter, they never submit.
However I'm biased, I must admit

For Gryffindor made me too

Therefore to such stereotypes

I suppose I must be true.

Brash and bold and terribly loud

You are at times far too proud

You lions refuse to be tamed

There's a lot you've put me through

And I've even been set aflame.

And yes Longbottom, I'm looking at you.

Often your medley of personality

Weighs on this school's sanity.

But I'll throw you in together

And pray it's for the better.

I had some time on my hands and got the idea in my head to write a song for the Sorting Hat. Really something that I came up with very quickly. It's freewrite, so there's absolutly no syllables or couplets to bother with. I didn't have any particular tune in my head when I wrote this, but I suppose it's set the year after Deathly Hallows. Neville is there because he came for an eigth year of learning, he's Sprout's new apprentice, or he's just awesome. You decide.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it! And be sure to leave a review =)

Always Love,

-Caranora
