Chapter Eight

Oh I miss yeah, a little dirt on the road
I miss corn growin`in rows
I miss being somebody everybody knows, there everybody knows everybody
I miss those small town roots
Walkin`around in muddy boots
The sound of rain on an old tin roof
It`s time we head on back

Meanwhile Back at Mama`s - Tim McGraw ft. Faith Hill

I sat on the floor beside the man that lay on the couch in his home in La Push. He was not sweating anymore, which was a good sign. I could hear footsteps behind me.

"I'm not leaving him, Carlisle." I said, not turning my head.

"He won't be waking up for a while, Mya. He is heavily sedated." Carlisle said.

I stood up at looked at him.

"I know he's going to be okay and that he'll heal quickly, but I can't leave his side. Not until he wakes up." I looked down at Jacob as he sleep on the couch. "He needs to see that I'm not going anywhere."

"Your brothers are outside waiting to talk to you." Carlisle smiled. "They are quite the pair."

I rolled my eyes and smiled.

"You have no friggin' idea." I said.

I leaned down and kissed Jacob on the forehead.

"I'll be right back, I promise." I whispered.

Carlisle walked me to the door and opened it for me.

"Thank you."

I walked outside and over to the black Impala that was parked in front of the beautiful wooden house. Sam and Dean were leaning on the hood.

"Where's Uncle Bobby?" I asked my brothers.

"He went back to the hotel to start packing up." Sam answered.

"Mya - " Dean started, but I cut him off.

"Don't. I don't want to hear it. Any of it." I squeezed in between them and leaned against the hood, as well. "You two know that I love this job. It's my life - always has been and always will be. There's no doubt in hell about that."

Dean let out a big sigh.

"You're not coming, are you?" He asked.

I shook my head.

"Nope." I replied. "But you already knew that."

Sam put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into a hug.

"Are you sure about all of this?" He asked, holding me back at arms length.

"Yes, Moose. I'm sure." I answered.

Dean wouldn't look directly at me.

"Dean… I know you have something to say." I took a step in front of him.

He finally looked at me, and the look in his eyes was a few emotions - hurt, confused, and one I don't see too often with this boy. Love.

"How do you know this is where you want to be?" He asked.

"You know that feeling you get when we're in a diner and you see the dessert fridge? The feeling you get in your stomach when you see they have apple pie and you know it's going to be good because your bacon cheeseburger was amazing?" I asked.

"Yeah?"

"That's the feeling I get when I'm with Jacob. That beautiful, artery-clogging, heart-attack pending feeling."

Sam let out a quiet laugh.

"Guys, this place… These people… It just feels right. This is where I need to be."

"We can't leave without you." Dean said.

I smiled.

"Yes. You can. And I know that you've come prepared for me not to go back to town with you."

"How do you figure that?" Sam asked.

I pointed inside the Impala.

"My bag is inside the car."

It was at that moment I realized Carlisle never left and had heard the entire conversation.

"She can live with us, if she would like to." Carlisle offered. "You are all more than welcome to stay with us. It's the least we can do to thank you for all the help that your family has been."

I knew that wouldn't sit well with Dean at all.

"I will be perfectly fine, guys. We will see each other sooner than later. Even you know that."

Sam looked around at the trees and crossed his arms. Oh no. I knew that look.

"You know what?" He looked at me. "I think we'll stick around, too."

"Seriously?" I asked.

"We already talked to Big Daddy over there - " Dean pointed to Carlisle. "We're all going to crash at their place for a while. Turns out a lot more freaky stuff passes through here than everyone realizes."

I smiled and headed back for the front door of Jacob's house.

"Well now that that's settled, you guys can head back to the Cullen's place. I know the only reason Dean wants to stick around is for the pie at the diner."

I heard the engine of the Impala fire up and the car began to pull away. Carlisle walked in behind me and closed the door.

"Carlisle, this is extremely nice of you. You really didn't have to put yourselves out for us. What we did today - it's our job, we do it all the time."

"Mya, please. Nobody is being put out. We enjoy having your family around."

We proceeded into the living room and I resumed my spot on the floor while Jacob continued to sleep on the couch.

"Aren't you worried about the blood scent? Won't that drive you all insane?" I asked.

"I never mentioned this before, and I haven't mentioned it to your brothers or Uncle either." He looked serious.

"What is it?" I asked. I'll admit, I was a little scared of what he was going to say.

"You, your brothers, your Uncle… You all have a… Different scent." He said.

"Different?" I was confused.

"I'm not sure how, but my family agrees. Something is different about your blood scent. It's not appealing to us."

I took Jacob's hand and rubbed the back of it with my thumb. I looked back to Carlisle.

"Do you think it could be because we came from a line of hunters? Maybe killing so many supernatural creatures has made our blood smell different some how? Maybe even almost dangerous?"

"It's a possibility. But we're happy you're staying. You and your family, you're special. Don't ever forget that."

In that moment, I felt Jacob squeeze my hand.

I gasped and Carlisle ran to Jacob and starting checking him over quickly.

"He's waking up." He told me.

I smiled. "But you said he wouldn't be waking up for a while."

"Every wolf is different. I gave him enough sedative to last at least 6 hours." Carlisle said. "This boy is a fighter."

I felt the grip on my hand tighten and I looked back at Jacob. His eyes were open, and even through all the pain he was in, he was smiling.

I leaned down over and gave him a gentle kiss on the lips. "You should be sleeping."

"How can I sleep when there is a beautiful woman sitting next to me?" He asked.

I hadn't even realized Carlisle had slipped away until I looked up and noticed he wasn't there. Vamps were quiet.

I raised my other arm and began to run my fingers through his hair. He grabbed my wrist and brought my hand down to his lips and kissed the palm.

A tear began to roll down my cheek and I lowered my head to hide it. Hunters don't cry. Especially Winchester hunters. Jacob let go of my hand and I felt his thumb wipe the falling tear.

"What's wrong?" He was worried.

I still couldn't look at him.

"Jake," I whispered. "You almost died today."

"But I didn't" He replied.

He shuffled himself upward so he was sitting and turned so his legs draped off the couch. He pulled me up to sit with him. I sat beside him, and sat as close as I could. He was back to his normal temperature, which meant he was healing at his regular supernatural speed.

"So when do you leave?" He wanted to get right to the point.

"I'm not."

His eyes were completely blank, like he didn't believe me. He finally clued in that I was being serious, and a massive Jake smile formed across his beautiful face.

"Carlisle opened up his home to my brothers and I." I said. "I'm not sure about my uncle, I don't know if he's leaving or if he's staying. But Jacob… I'm not going anywhere. This is where I belong - it feels like home."

Both of his hands enveloped my face and his lips crushed mine with a kiss that would put Christian Grey to shame. I snaked my fingers through his hair, returning the kiss with as much force and passion. We both pulled away at the same time and caught our breath.

"Mya… I love you so much." He whispered.

I pulled my head back slightly so I could look into his eyes. "Jacob Black, you are my life. I love you, too."

He kissed me again, and again, and again. This is how everything was supposed to be. He was my reward for all of the hunts and monsters I've had to go through. Jacob Black was my neon light at the end of the long, dark tunnel. I wouldn`t trade one second of going through what I did to get where I am now, here with him.

Forks and La Push were both my home. I could feel their pull coursing through my veins. I belonged here. My family belonged here.
