This is my first ever published fan fiction. I felt that in the light of current events of the Castle world, I wanted to write my version of what happened. This is based off the Canadian promo, because frankly, the ABC one sort of sucked. This is post 3x16 Setup, pre 3x17 Countdown. Please, I want some constructive criticism, just nothing too horribly mean. I want to improve my writing, not try and build up my self-esteem. Thanks for reading.

"Beckett." Castle's voice rang through the freezer towards the woman standing by the door, trying to find a way out. "It's Jamal."

If it wasn't already freezing in the chamber, those words froze her on the spot. Turning, she looked at the body as he held it up for her to look at. Shaking her head, she turned, looking at the door again. This couldn't be happening. Not in the middle of the terrorist attack. This, of course, proved one thing they'd been trying to figure out. Jamal and Amir weren't the terrorists.

"Do you believe me now?" The body was back on the floor and his eyes were on her back, waiting for the detective to look at him, waiting for her to say something.

Turning, she stared at him, shaking her head. "I always believe you, Castle. I just don't want to believe this. Not now." She crossed her arms over her chest, looking at him as the smoke left his mouth and into the open before it evaporated immediately. Walking towards him, she looked into his eyes before she moved around him and bent over the body, rolling him over and looking at him. "He was killed the same way as Amir, it seems, at least. 9 caliber, right smack dab in the middle." Letting the body fall back to whatever position it chose, she stood up again, feeling the cold begin to take its toll. It couldn't have been more than fifteen minutes that they were in there and she was already freezing.

"How cold do you think it is in here?" Castle's voice brought her back from the thoughts of being cold, only directing them to how cold it was. Shrugging slightly, she looked at the ground before she pulled out the mini portable Geiger counter, happy that it had more than just radiation measurements. Seeing the temperature brought her heart down into her shoes, though.

"1 below zero." Her voice was matter of fact as she pulled the hood from the sweatshirt that was under her jacket and zipped up the tan leather. Pulling the hood over her head, she figured she might as well keep as much warmth in her as she could.

They stood in silence for a few moments, contemplating on the best options they had. There were multiple, all of them running through the pairs' heads. Keep each other warm, try and call someone, there were an infinite amount of possibilities.

"Castle, you have your phone with you, right?" Kate pulled her own phone out, opening it to see if she even got a signal in the hell hole they were in. She held it up towards the roof, seeing Castle do the same thing out of the corner of her eye. Walking towards the door, she sighed, seeing there was no possible way of getting a signal. They were practically in an ice cube.

"Hey, I think I've got something." The detective turned to Castle as he began to dial a number, hopefully someone who could help when his hands began to shake. It wasn't much, but it was enough for the phone to move positions and the signal lost with their last chance of getting out. "Damn it." His voice was soft but hard at the same time, anger obvious in it.

Kate shook her head, putting her phone back in her pocket, making sure to leave it on just in case there was a slight chance the boys could get a GPS signal from it and hopefully safe them before it was too late. Feeling her gun as she put her phone away, she pulled it out, looking at it before she looked at the door. She knew it was stupid, but maybe someone was close enough to hear the gun shots. Or maybe, just maybe, she would be able to hit the perfect spot on the door and get them out of there with only mild hypothermia. She knew that if they did get out that very second, that would be the largest amount of damage to them. If not… she didn't even want to go there.

"Beck-" Before he could even think about finish his sentence Castle's ears were filled with gunshots hitting aluminum. "Kate! Whoa, whoa, whoa!" His arms were above his head, his body bent over at his core as he urged Kate to stop shooting.

"Castle, nobody knows we're in here!" Seeing the look on his face, she knew she was going to get one of them killed, so she put the gun away and shook her head, trying to come up with a plan on how to get out. The hypothermia was slowly beginning to take over her mind, being the only thing she could even think of.

"We're not going to just sit here and freeze to death." He took a step closer to her, looking into her eyes, trying to control the shivering his body was doing. "We'll think of something." He watched her nod her head slowly before she leaned against the wall, slowly sliding to the ground. He took a seat next to her, watching her closely, keeping his arms close to his chest in attempt to keep some warmth in.

Kate didn't want to disturb the silence that was in the freezer, she also didn't know what to say. Feeling something running down her face, she moved her hand to the spot, fear taking over her body. "Castle, this isn't good." She raised her hand with the drip of sweat on it, quickly shaking it off as she stood again, beginning to pace the length of the freezer.

"No, it's not." Castle watched her stand up; worried she was going to overwork herself in the coldness they were in. Knowing she needed to save her energy, he stood up; stopping her in her tracks by placing his hands on her shoulder, causing her took look up at him. "Kate, don't do this. Everything is going to be…" He didn't want to say okay and give possible false hope.

Watching her wiggle out of his grip, she looked down at their feet, taking a few slow and even breaths, trying to keep as much oxygen as she could in her body, just in case.

"I could really use a silver lining right now." Kate's eyes went up, looking into his ice blues before they went back to their feet. She saw his shoes move slightly, knowing that they were moving a step closer to her. It was confirmed when she felt the heat from his body radiating off of him and onto her.

"I wish I could give you one." His hands went under her chin, bringing her eyes to his as he stared at her. "I really wish I could." She nodded slightly before she wrapped her arms around his waist. If he asked she could just say it's to give each other body heat since they were likely going to die from hypothermia. It meant much more to them, though. To both of them. They were taking one step closer, even if it was in the eyes of death.

She could feel her legs getting weaker by the minute and he knew his legs wouldn't hold up much longer, so he decided to move, no matter how much pain he put himself in as he practically carried to towards the wall, keeping her close to his body. Her skin was getting much paler then his was and at a much faster rate. For some reason, she was losing body heat faster than he was. Her lips were slowly turning purple and her hair was to the point of freezing icicles on the ends. The two slowly went to the ground, Kate's eyes trying the damnedest to stay open, but not doing a very good job. Her back was against him, her head leaning against his shoulder. Her body was continuously shaking as they sat there for what seemed like days, but was really only minutes.

In reality, it had been ten hours since they entered the freezer, and it was life threatening, for the both of them.

Her words were soft, hard for him to catch. Luckily, he did though.

"Can't feel anything." Kate's body eventually stopped shaking and her breathing had become shallower. She was dying, fast.

Castle's arms brought Beckett's body closer to his as he tried to give her more body heat. His hands were slowly moving up and down her arms, trying to create some sort of friction to bring her warmth. Nothing seemed to be working though. Feeling her move in his arms, he looked down at her, keeping his eyes on her as her body turned and her cheek was over his heart. Her hand loosely gripped his jacket as she tugged him closer to her. That was her only way of asking for more heat. He couldn't give her any more, though and it was killing him. Her eyes were closed, but when he saw her mouth open, his body perked up a bit, knowing she was trying to say something.

"Kate, what is it? Come on, don't leave me." He held her as close as he could, each second ticking by brought her closer to death, which, in turn, brought him closer to death.

"Just want you to know… how much I luhh…" Her voice was cut off, though and her body grew limp, the one hand holding onto his jacket falling into his lap.

"Stay with me." His voice was barely above a whisper, his own body heat slowly running low. It was evident in his hoarse voice. He pressed his cheek to the top of her head, his eyes closing from the exhaustion of trying to keep them open for her. "Stay with me, Kate. You can't leave, not like this. Think of your Dad." Those were the last words he spoke before his own body grew limp.

Little did they know that help was just outside the door.
