As One
"My god, it's a form of DNA. A blueprint. A-…"
"Nolan, what are you doing?"
Nolan Stross didn't even give Isabel Cho a second glance, which was more than could be said for Sandra Burns, considering that she might as well have not existed right now. This…this was far beyond them, far beyond humanity, far beyond even himself. Even his scribbling of the Marker's language with his light-pen felt…primitive, like a caveman trying to explain why the sun rose and set through art. God, it was only when faced with such scientific discovery that one could appreciate how…ignorant mankind was.
"Nolan?"
And base. Because even in his enlightened state (or rather as enlightened as he was going to get before Convergence), Isabel's voice snapped him out of his trance. Petty instincts, the sexual drive…desires that humans would no longer be slaves to in the future, but for now, he could submit to.
"Isabel, you won't believe this…" Stross breathed, his eyes on his scribbling but his mind drifting towards one of the two females in the room before turning towards the other. "Sandra, that will be all."
"But doctor, we need to run a special analysis-…"
"That will be all, Miss Burns."
Sandra was clearly confused, and given the presence of the O'Bannon's chief medical officer in a wing reserved for study of the Marker fragment, seemingly a bit suspicious as well. Still, much to Stross's gratitude, she left. Such knowledge…it was too large for her simple mind. Possibly Isabel's as well, but he had to tell someone apart from Captain Campbell and those even higher than him in regards to the scientist's true allegiance.
"Isabel…it's amazing…" Stross breathed, turning to face his colleague, a.k.a. "main squeeze." "The shard, it's the key to an alien language. A…a guide to DNA chains I've never seen before. This may contain the secret to the future of human evolution!"
"Nolan, are you okay? You seem a little…hyper-active."
Damn that woman. She's started it.
Stross tried to keep the Marker and what he'd learnt in his mind, but Isabel, what with her sultry voice and close proximity wasn't making it easy. The human thirst for knowledge could easily be overshadowed by the human need for…well, human needs in themselves. And while he tried to fight it, tried to ignore green eyes and smooth black hair, he knew he was on the losing end of this battle.
"Try and understand…" Stross pleaded, even as Isabel reached the 'hand on cheek phase.' "This is the finding of a lifetime.
"Well…don't let it go to your head.
Son of a…!
She'd done it. She'd done it so quickly that Stross had effectively blacked out for a few seconds. One moment he was trying to explain the significance of the Marker, how it would initiate Convergence and unite humanity as one, as a lifeform of a higher order. The next, he and Isabel were on an examination table, both of their chests were exposed and he'd practically forgotten the DNA code that he'd jotted down. His mind said stop, but what some regarded as a man's secondary brain urged him on.
"But…" Nolan began, talking to his 'lower brain' as much to Isabel. "…this could alter the very destiny of humanity…change everything…"
"We'll talk about that later…" Isabel whispered, her voice still as sultry and manipulative as ever before. "But for now…"
His upper brain said "screw it," his lower brain said "time for screwing" and his soul, if such a thing really existed, said "let the body take over." Damnit.
Part of Stross wanted to tell Isabel about Convergence, about becoming one…
…but as flesh met flesh, as they became one in an orgy of moans and gasps, the pair became as one in an entirely different manner…

So, let's see...I began posting on this site in 2006 and it's only now that I've written anything that can vaguely be considered as lemon. Um...yay?
