Summary: Who was Fifi before she became Rumpelstiltskin's swan? Like most Shrek characters she has roots in a fairytale. a quick drabble

"Who Fifi Was" by JustWriter

She was just a little girl, a princess actually. She'd lost everything to that witch; her father, her brothers, her roses, her home, her right to speak… and she didn't have enough petals left in the cave to complete the shirts needed to change her brothers back into humans. She silently cried, but a little man with red hair and a creepy smile came to her rescue. He scared her at first but he knew exactly what was wrong and promised her he'd fix it; all she had to do was sign that piece of paper and her family would be free from this mess. If she wasn't satisfied with the results then all she had to do was speak his name. However as soon as she signed it she transformed into a swan herself and she tried vainly to scream out his name. All that came from her beak was a desperate squawk and she soon discovered the obedience part of the deal; she had to do whatever he told her to no matter what.

Author's Note & Disclaimer: This short story is based on the fairytale, "The Wild Swans," and is featured in the book, "Best-Loved Children's Stories," which I have no affiliation with other than owning a copy of the book published by PUBLICATIONS INTERNATIONAL, Ltd. I'm making the princess in the story a lot younger than featured in the pictures in the storybook; this is certainly feasible considering that the story never mentioned any time passing other than the three days for her to complete sewing the shirts. This story idea occurred to me as I watched the "Shrek Forever After," trailer when Rumplestiltskin ordered the swan, "Jump Fifi, jump!" I figured that she was as much of a victim of his as anyone else and she most likely was extremely bitter and somewhat spoiled brat in the end because of the way that she was raised as a favorite of her father.
