A.N.: Hey all I'm back! It's been awhile, but I lost my writing bug for a little while. And now I have a new obsession...SUPERNATURAL! It's unbelievably amazing! I am about a third through S3 and these boys have stolen my heart, and the story lines are superb. Anywho trying my swing at writing for them. Watched the episode "Heart" today and mine broke at the end, this is just a tag to the end of the episode. Hope I do it justice. Told from Deans' always God bless and thank you so much for reading :)

Disclaimer: Not mine, what a bummer.

Dean can't believes he flinches when the shot rings out. He has heard that sound more times than he can remember and half the time has been the one aiming a cannon at what ever the hell was the monster of the week, and still he flinches. Another tear joins the solitary one trailing down his cheek and he finds that he is holding a breathe...one that rushes out of him as part sigh, part sob. There is silence in the apartment, everything still until he hears the thud of the gun, accompanied by one pained, low cry from Sam. Just one.

Dean stares at his brothers back, hunched over, completely blocking the figure of the woman he has pulled into his lap. "Sam?" he calls, watching as his shoulders heave with grief.

"Sammy?" he asks again. He wants to ask if he's okay, but it seems like a moronic question. He wants to crack a joke, but the sorrow in the room is choking him. He lays his hand on Sams' shoulder, jolting as one of his brothers hands moves to grip his, tightly, painfully. As if Dean is his life line, the only thing anchoring him to sanity. Dean squeezes back gently, wishing more than anything that he could take away his pain, restore his innocence and protect him from every God awful thing the world had to offer. Sams' eyes meet his, tortured and pleading, almost waiting for Dean to do something to fix this. "I'm sorry, Sammy." He grunts out, voice gruff. His brother nods, head hanging low, unable to fight back the wave of loss that hits him. His hand shakes in Deans', barely containing his emotions. Dean steadies him, rides out the pain with him, waits for his brother to come back from the abyss. As Sam finally looks up at him Dean thinks the weight of the world has never been heavier.

a.w. Not sure how I feel about this, please let me know what you think. I love Dean and Sam and every time Dean cries on the show...I cry with him. Stupid, lovely man. :P
