Short and quick story. Happy Birthday, drodgers89 :D!
Stephen peered out around the corner and ducked back, his heart beating rapidly. He made sure his gun was loaded before going in. Stephen spun around the corner to face his prey, who was gone. Just like that.
He stuck to the walls and slowly made his way down to the next hallway. Stephen had to decide whether to step out into the open and get a good look at his opponent or stick his hand out in case they fired. He swallowed hard and raised his gun as he broke out into the open. No one was in sight.
Just then did he realize his mistake. He turned around and ducked just as the Nerf dart sailed over his head. Cutter grinned at him from down the hall and fired a few more times, catching Stephen in the chest, before taking off deeper into the ARC. Stephen smirked and headed after him, laughing softly.
He just loved these training simulations. Especially Nick's danger free gun training.
Connor and Abby were no where to be found, they probably teamed up to take the other two down. Stephen skidded to a halt as he approached Cutter's office, the door open by the slightest fraction. He would bet that was where the Scottish man had disappeared into. Stephen made sure he had a dart in place before kicking open the door and rushing in.
The room was empty. Cutter's chair was unoccupied and there was no signs of anything strange. Until Connor and Abby rolled out from under the professors desk and began firing shot after shot at Stephen. They were grinning like little kids as they hit their target successfully. Cutter appeared from behind the door, rubbing his face.
"You could'a knocked, Stephen." He said and sat in his chair, not before giving his two assassins looks of approval.
"Sorry, Cutter. Wasn't thinking." Stephen said and raised an eyebrow. "And before you say it, I know. I will be thinking if a situation similar to this occurs." Cutter smiled and stood up. He looked as if he was about to say something but was cut off by the anomaly alert blaring.
"It can wait," He said, taking off his Nerf vest and tossing it back onto his chair. Cutter motioned for Stephen to move inside as he was blocking the exit and walked past.
"The orange porcupine look suits you, mate." Connor grinned cheekily as he dropped his equipment in Stephen's arms before bouncing by.
"Sorry Stephen, but you know the rules." Abby dropped her vest and gun on top of Connor's getup.
"Yeah, yeah. Loser has to clean up. That's usually Connor." Stephen tilted his head and gave Connor a good natured smirk. The younger man just stuck out his tongue and followed Cutter to the ADD.
Stephen shook his head and grinned as he headed over to Cutter's desk to pick up the strewn equipment. He noticed a picture laying on the professors desk. half in a frame. It was taken sometime ago when they all had a day off. Connor was laughing at something Abby had said, his signature fedora on his head. The blond had her arm around his shoulders and was grinning at the camera. Stephen and Cutter were rolling their eyes at the two, smiling.
"You coming, Stephen or do I have to drag you there myself?" Cutter shouted from down the hall.
"Coming, Cutter." Stephen responded and stuffed the Nerf equipment in one of Cutter's unused drawers.
Training was over, and reality had set in.
