Allen wondered bitterly at the supposed fairness of God. His life was just about as bad as they got, and he could not remember doing anything to deserve it.

First he had been abandoned by his parents. That was worse a fate that most people had.

Then, when he was picked up from the streets and leading a happy life, with Mana, God just had to snatch that away from him. And to make things worse, God just had to make Allen the one who tore apart his own happiness by bringing Mana back as an Akuma, then killing him.

Next, he was picked up by that simply horrible master and forced to suffer through the war, as the only one who could see the Akuma, as the one whom everyone thought of as the Destroyer of Time. Sometimes, he wondered if the higher-ups thought of him as 'Allen Walker' or as the Destroyer of Time, a tool for them to use. But it was probably the latter, Allen thought, allowing himself a wry smile.

And now, the wonderful news his master had decided to tell him. That he would kill someone he loved when he transformed into the Fourteenth. There was no question of who it would be; it was only when that mattered. What had he done to ever deserve this? At least his friends had no idea that he might turn out to be a murderer, only that he might turn into the Fourteenth…

Allen was so distracted, so deep in thought, that he had not even noticed where he was walking. Only now did he look up, and realize to his extreme horror that he was lost. He waved his arms in panic. Where was he? He had no idea…

"You look like a chicken, Moyashi." Allen's favourite blue-haired samurai smirked as he walked out of his room.

Allen stared at him, "Oh no…if your room is here…then my room is all the way at the other wing…"

Kanda gave another of his famous smirks, "Serves you right for not paying attention to where you're going." He strode past Allen and was about to turn round the corner, when Allen suddenly said in a much more serious tone, "Wait."

Kanda paused, glancing back at the Beansprout.

"When…when I transform into the Fourteenth…" Allem said hesitantly. "When I transform into the Fourteenth, you may be the first one I come after. When that happens, will you be the one to cut me down? I would rather…I would rather you do it than anyone else."

Kanda hesitated, his eyes scanning Allen's face. Then he muttered, "If, not when."

"Eh?" Allen looked confused.

"I said if you turn into a Noah, not when you turn into a Noah." Kanda snapped. Then he 'che'd' and walked away. Allen watched him go with a slight smile on his face.

As Kanda turned away from the Moyashi, he felt a bitter taste in his mouth. That was the first promise Allen had asked of him… It was a pity Kanda had no intention of fulfilling it. After all, he would sooner die with Allen than kill him.
