Because Life is a Miracle

Emily's POV

"Rangers!" Bulk yelled running forward, "We are all Samurai here. You've saved Spike and I so many times. And now, it's my turn to save you!"

"Bulk! Spike!" Mia shouted, but it was too late.

All those times we had saved them. All those times we had gotten them out of danger.

Bulk rushed forward and leapt up trying to get to Dayu, but the moogers got to him first. The flash of their swords, the sound of Bulk in pain, and then the blood.

"Bulk!" I cried out and ran to him, slashing at a few of the moogers that got in my way, but I was to late. I was at his side as quickly as it happened, but it didn't matter. The precious things in life. The people we care about. It's funny how fragile it all is.

Bulk was on the ground his eyes closed, his body refused to move.

A tear escaped my eye. He'd only ever wanted to be just like Samurai Rangers. He even risked his own life to try to get to us while we were hiding away from the world, wallowing and feeling helpless without our powers. He was always there believing in us and fighting the good fight the best he could.

He was reckless yes, but his heart was always in the right place.

"Uncle Bulk?" Spike's voice was weak and small.

"We have to get you out of here," I held back my emotions. I had my duties to focus on. I had Spike and the other rangers to think about.

The laughter started.

"How funny? That human really thought he could beat me? He couldn't even handle a little mooger. Dying for what? A Prom that most people don't even celebrate. How pathetic? I mean what's so magical about this whole thing anyway? It's not like homeschooled kids ever got to go, and we definitely never had them in my day. People. Gosh you are all so pathetic. Dying for the dumbest things," Dayu laughed.

"Dayu you're wrong!" Mia shouted.

"Oh," Dayu turned to her and attacked, knocking her over without much effort at all. Our spirits just weren't in the fight anymore. How could we fight for good and justice, when all we wanted to do was give up go home and hide away from the cruelty of it all?

"He didn't do it for Prom," Jayden helped Mia up, "He did it because he believes in us. Bulk died because he believed we would stop you."

"Oh the power of sadness and revenge. Seems like you might flood the Sanzu river all by yourself red," Dayu was loving this.

"Here! Jayden!" Antonio threw him the black box. It was time this all ended.

"For Bulk!" Jayden caught it.

"Dayu, I don't care about whether or not there might be some good in you. You've crossed a line," Mia shouted.

I cocked my to the side, "Dayu, it's time you give back all those teenagers, and it's time you realized why we are the Samurai rangers!"

"Oh! I'm shaking!" Dayu laughed, "What are you going to do? Give me the evil eye? Destroy yourselves like last time? Let's be honest you are a joke, and honey, You're the most useless of them all," Dayu looked dead at me.

Mike jumped, but Kevin held him back, "You won't do any good if you let your rage get you knocked out."

"Ha! Like I can be calm when a psycho like that is walking around!" Mike spat.

I took a deep breath trying to find some clarity, trying to use the anger instead of letting it control me, "Jayden throw me the black box."

Jayden looked at me for a moment. Considering something in his head.

"Now," I breathed.

He nooded and tossed it to me, I caught it effortlessly.

"Now, Super Sammurai mode!" I yelled.

"Are you sure about this Em?" Mike called from beside me.

He was concerned that the emotions had taken me in. But somehow, in all of it, I felt a peace. As if Bulk was there telling me that it was okay to move forward. It was like he was telling me to stop Dayu, find the girls and it'll all be okay.

I took one last look at Bulk. Spike was hunched over him crying.

"Yes, take care of Spike okay," I nodded and Mike nodded back. I was grateful he understood that this was something I had to do.

"Okay," I took a deep breath in and watch Dayu get ready for an attack.

"This is for all the people and dreams you've crushed Dayu. Super Primate Cyclone!"

And the gymnasium shook and tumbled to the ground.

Hours later I woke up to Mike shaking me awake.

"Wha-What happened?" My voice sounded strange, almost like it wasn't mine at first. Like all the things that had happened, had actually happened to some other girl named Emily, not me.

"Emily!" Mike hugged me, only it was a little to soon, I was sure I'd broken something.

"Ow!" I cried out, and Mike let go of me. Gently, of course.

"Sorry I'm just so happy you're okay," Mike smiled at me. And I had to admit, I wanted to stay like that forever. Ignorant of the world and what was happening, but then I thought of Bulk and Spike and all the people that were counting on the Rangers to save Prom.

"So, I'm pretty sure your principal likes the green ranger about as much as he liked Mike right about now," Mike scratched the back of his head and helped me sit up slowly.

"Bulk is really…" but I couldn't say gone. It was too much too fast, "Everyone? What happened?"

"Well," Mia walked a little closer, "We're all a little bruised and banged up, but other than that we're okay."

"Hey guys!" Antonio ran up to us, dodging all the rumble from the school gymnasium that crumbled around us, "When we defeated Dayu, the cops found the warehouse where all the girls were being kept and set them free. Luckily, Dayu was too dumb to think she'd ever loose to us so she never left any moogers behind to stop the cops from helping them escape."

Emily smiled, "That's great!"

But it was still bittersweet. Even with Prom safe and Dayu having disappeared, we had still lost a friend.

"Mia, Emily? What are you guys doing here?"

I perked up trying to see around the boulder that Spike was desperately trying to move, but no. It must've been Spike's voice I heard.

"OW! Will you get this thing off my leg already?! I thought you were a Samurai?!"

"I-I'm trying Uncle Bulk! Ung! Gee! Ung!" Spike groaned.

"Bulk!" I cried out, "You're alive!"

"Of course I'm alive! I'm a samurai warrior! I'll have you know I took on a monster today, all by myself, and I was so powerful I made the who gym collapse! How did you guys get here anyway I thought you said you weren't coming? Ow! Spike not that way!"

"Here let me help," Kevin said.

"Seems everything ended up the way it was supposed to," Mike laughed out of relief.

The tears wouldn't stop coming out. But they were happy tears, so it was okay. And yes everything did work out okay.

Because life has a way of doing that. Of putting people in your life who will help you learn, the way that Bulk and Spike did, so that we could pass trials the way we passed opening the black box. And it all came down to helping us overcome our situation with Dayu, and letting us experience the magic of a Super Samurai prom. The best Prom I could have asked for.

So the next time we come face to face with something that seems bigger that us, we can remember Prom and the miracles it brought us. And life won't stop bringing miracles, no matter how big and dark the things we face are, because that's what life is after all. One big miracle.

We'll face heartache and broken things along the way, but in the end, this world, this life, no matter how broken, is more beautiful than we ever could've imagined. It's a miracle. And I'm so grateful that this screwed up mess of a person that I am, gets to be a part of it.

The end.
