The sun had barely peaked over the horizon, casting a light glow across Amestris. A young Roy Mustang found himself walking up the cobblestone path to the Hawkeye house. Master Hawkeye had been teaching him the basis of alchemy for a few years now and required Roy to come in the very early hours in the morning to begin training.
Roy ran a hand through his raven hair and rubbed any traces of tiredness from his face. Master Hawkeye gave him hell when he betrayed anything resembling tiredness. Roy hated when his master was angry, it made training very unpleasant.
He raised his hand and knocked twice on the wooden door, stepping back and waiting for an answer. After a few minutes, he heard a gruff, "Come in," and Roy stepped into the run down house, slipping his shoes off as he did so.
"In here," his master yelled from the back of the house. Roy followed the sound of the voice and found his master sitting at his desk, his eyes closed as if he was deep in concentration. Either that or he was dead.
"Master?" Roy asked only to be silenced by his master. At least he was not dead.
Roy sat down quietly, waiting for his Master's instructions.
"Do you like music?" Master Hawkeye asked suddenly.
"Uh yes," Roy replied, confusion obvious on his face. His master was in a surprisingly good mood. "Master, what is this about?"
"Shhhh and listen."
Roy obeyed, closing his eyes as his master did. He could faintly hear the running of water. Most likely form a shower. Much softer than that, Roy could hear singing. Whoever was singing had an amazing voice, one that made everyone stop what they were doing and listen. Maybe this explained his master's stranger-than-normal demeanor.
"Well she certainly did not inherit that from me," his master said. "She got that from her mother. Reminds me of her every time I hear it. She would be horribly embarrassed to know that we heard her." He stopped as if remembering something of the past. "Anyways, let us begin today's lessons," he said, then added, "Oh and feel free to tease her about this later."
Roy was scribbling a few transmutation circles on a piece of paper to pass the time. His master had given him a bit of free time but he found himself a bit bored.
"My father said you might like some tea," a voice came from the doorway. Riza Hawkeye, his master's daughter, stood in the doorframe, a cup of steaming tea in her hands. Roy nodded and she set it on the table next to him.
Turning to walk away, Roy called after her, "I really liked your singing earlier."
Riza's cheeks turned a bright shade of pink as she hurriedly left the room. Roy smirked, sipping his tea quietly, resuming his studies.

This is dedicated to my friend Riley… A while ago we went to Cabaret at our school (which is a fundraiser for our choir) and I met her at her house. When I walked in her dad said that she was in the shower and would be down in a bit. He then added that if I listened I could hear her singing (and I did!) and then said that I should tease her after. I did! But Riley (if you read this) your singing was very good!
Oh and I was originally going to end it with Royai and have him transmute a music box for her later but I'll let you imagine that yourselves because I don't want to put it into words.
Anyways, thanks for reading! and reviewing!
