Canada looked up into the sky, watching the northern lights as the danced across the sky. It was beautiful, but sad. It reminded him of just how alone he was at the top of the world. Kuma had already turned in for the night leaving the nation alone with his thoughts.

Sighing he turned to walk inside.

"Kanada!"

Spinning Canada looked for the person who had called his name.

"Russia, I wasn't expecting a visit this late. Come on in it's cold tonight."

Ivan stood on his deck with the sunflowers in his hands, smiling at the other nation, "Thanks very much, but it's so pretty. Surely you would like to stay out a bit longer?"

"I suppose, the lights are bright tonight anyway," Canada said with a shrug. He was used to his friend's odd habits by now, seeing as Russia was one of the few people who remembered Canada. Well he remembered after he sat on him one to many times at a G8 meeting and Canada shoved him off and onto the floor. Canada being who he was, apologized for doing so immediately afterwards and had helped him up. While Russia just laughed and complemented him on his strength.

That was when they had started being friends.

Canada hadn't even noticed how close they had gotten until his brother confronted him about it.

Matthew sighed and traced the rim of his, now cold, hot chocolate. It was the worst fight between him and Al since the War of 1812. Al insisted that Russia, "Wasn't safe" and "Would end up hurting him."

Matthew lost it at his brother, he yelled at Al for an hour at the least. He raved about how if anyone knew how to hurt the people they loved it was Al, not Ivan. Mattie even went so far as to called Al out on tearing their family apart.

Sighing Mattie took a sip of his cup, before setting it down on the rail. It's not like he could help the feelings he had developed for the Russian man.

"Why are you here so late?" he asked Ivan again.

Ivan looked at his watch and held up a finger. Mattie waited.

Ivan held out the flowers, motioning for him to take them. Grabbing a handful, Matthew was completely surprised by what came next. Ivan leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. It wasn't a pushy kiss, but a slight kiss. The kind of kiss you would give some on at the alter on your wedding day.

"Happy birthday."
