As Cece tossed her ginger tresses over her shoulder, she gazed at the pool-goers before her through thick-rimmed sunglasses. "Why am I even here?" she questioned herself. "It's so boring—and I'm not even getting paid!" She shot a fierce glare at Rocky, who was flirting with Deuce from the edge of the pool. "I'm a life guard, yet I have no one to save or punish!" Cece grumbled, cringing from the sunburn that was leisurely making its way to her back.
Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With silver bells, and cockle shells, and pretty maids all in a row.
She smiled as she hummed. She could have been working on her garden, pulling weeds and planting new flowers in their place. Yes, Cece loved to garden. Although she lived in Chicago (where there isn't much land suitable for plant life), she managed to discover a decent little quarry near her apartment building.
"You look bored out of your mind." Said Henry. Cece glanced at him from her lifeguard chair. "You have no idea," she chuckled, slumped over as she returned her gaze to the pool. "Well, I do have some algebra equations you could work, but I don't think that would be too safe, considering the fact that you're supposed to be watching everyone in case of accidental drowning—"
As if on cue, there was a screech from the center of the pool. "HELP! I CAN'T SWIM! HELP!" Cece spotted Gunther immediately as he flailed his arms above his head frantically. She dove into the water, her fellow lifeguards instructing everyone to exit the pool. Cece's arms snaked around the boy's waist and dragged him to safety.
Kneeling down before a coughing Gunther Hessenheffer, she glowered. "If you didn't know how to swim, then why the heck did you go swimming?" she sighed, placing a towel around his shoulders. "Well, I overheard your conversation with the little nerdy boy, and since you said you were bored, I figured I'd provide some entertainment!" Gunther explained, a goofy grin gracing his lips.
Cece slapped him across the face.
