Why

'Kotetsu T. Kaburagi,' he thought angrily to himself as he stared down at the wanted poster in his lap. A strange feeling began to well up in his chest. It was intense and deep, but to Barnaby's frustration, it wasn't hate. Not even close.

He picked up the poster with both hands and brought the man's picture eye-level to his own and analyzed the face in front of him. "I don't know who you are," he concluded, surprised, as the tightening in his chest grew painful.

The longer he stared at the man in the picture, the stronger the pain in his chest became. 'What is this?' he wondered irritably, "why can't I hate you?"

He deftly moved his hands to the top of the page and made to tear it straight down the middle, but faltered. He continued to stare into the man he knew to be a murder's eyes even as his vision blurred and tears began streaming down his cheeks.

The poster fell to the floor as Barnaby removed both hands to clutch desperately at his aching chest.

"Why? Why can't I hate you, old man?"

A/N: Super short, depressing drabble I did while trying to get over my writer's block.
I will get to writing another chapter of Unlikely Pair soon (I hope)!
