It was a nice, breezy day in late August, and I was sitting in the living room of my apartment with my boyfriend and roomate. We were simply watching TV on this nice day, which I kind of regretted since I'd rather have been outside. My other roomate, Peach, was in the kitchen, fixing lunch and audibly humming to herself a random tune that neither of us recognized. Her blonde head popped out of the doorway. "Ike? Coke or Pepsi?" "Pepsi. Please." My bluenette lover responded with a small smile. "And you?" Peach asked me, diverting her sky blue eyes to my cobalt ones. "Same, please." I answered.
Rumble...
Peach froze. "Ike, you didn't leave the washing machine running-"
Rumble.
My head snapped over to look at Ike. "Did you...did you feel that?" There was silence. My love was white as a sheet.
RUMBLE...
"Oh goddess..." I whimpered, instinctively scooting closer to Ike on the couch. Peach stood frozen.
RUMBLERUMBLERUMBLE...
The entire room shook and I cried out, clinging to my lover. I heard Peach shriek and out of the corner of my eye, I saw her crouch down out of fear. The shaking lasted at least ten seconds, and my heart was pounding; even after the violent tremors stopped, I was still trembling, and Ike had wrapped his arms around me. I felt him tremble slightly, too. He was the first to speak:
"Oh...my...god..." He whispered, clutching me to his chest. Peach stood slowly up, her slender body quivering as well. Her face was pure horror.
"Earthquake...?" She asked under her breath, and we weren't sure who she was asking. It was probably just out of shock, but I nodded. "Earthquake." Ike reached over and slowly, shakily grabbed the remote, turning the channel on the TV to the news. He let go of me slightly and looked at me, eyes wide.
