Hey everyone! As promised, here is the first of the 'One Night' rewrites. I hope you enjoy it, I took a lot of time trying to improve this story and I hope it shows!

Friday, September 30th 1994

Nypmhadora Tonks walked into the East London pub eager to put the day behind her. The 20 year old Auror was sure that today was the worst day of her career; another mysterious death had occurred. This time a muggle family of five, the mother and father were slain as were their three children, the youngest only five years old. This had been the third unexplained murder since the first one occurred in Little Hangleton back in August. All of them using the unforgivable curse Aveda Kadevra. She knew that only one group could be responsible for using that curse; Death Eaters, You-know-who supporters. They were back...they probably had never even left after the death of their leader, but now they were making themselves known to the wizarding world.

It seemed like everyday was scarier than the last. She loved her job; she'd dreamed of being an Auror since her first year at Hogwarts, but seeing the deceased bodies of young children was excruciatingly painful. That was why she sat in the muggle pub drinking the double shots of whiskey trying to forget the faces. She couldn't handle being in a wizarding pub...the owners and barmen knew her well and she wanted to be in a place where no one would know her or judge her.

The pub was filled; men coming in after a long day of work, uni students laughing loudly. Normally she would have joined the students as they were closer to her age, but tonight she needed to be alone.

She ordered another drink before noticing a sad and shabbily dressed man taking a seat beside her.

"You're looking worse for the wear." She said.

"I beg your pardon?" He asked.

"You look down. Something wrong?"

"Bad day."

"I hear that." She concurred. "Get this man a drink, on me!" She then shouted to the barman.

"What'll you have?" the thin and balding barman asked.

"Whiskey, neat." He replied.

"Whiskey...a man after my own heart." She sighed. "I'm Leigh by the way." She introduced herself opting to use her middle name. Muggles often asked about her strange forename so using her middle name had become habit.

"I'm Remy." He replied.

"So Remy, what's made your day shite?"

"Family issues."

"Come on, you can tell me. You know my name, I've bought you a drink...we're no longer strangers. I'll tell you why my day's been terrible as well."

"It's my nephew, he's having a hard time in school and there's not much I can do."

"Have his parents tried handling it?"

"They're both dead. Motorway accident when he was only a toddler. The school administration aren't doing much about it either."

"Can't you transfer him to a different school?"

"I wish I could, but I don't have custody. The people caring for him are terrible and can't be bothered to care for him properly."

"Have you tried getting custody? I reckon he'd be better off with you than them."

"There's no way the courts would let me have custody. I don't have the best employment record among other things." He explained.

"That's shite. You deserve another drink mate." She said flagging down the barman once more.

"Your turn." He responded.

She thought quickly as she could for her story trying to omit any magical references.

"I work for law enforcement and I had my first murder case today."

"You're a little young to be working for law enforcement...what're you 18?"

"I'm 20. I'm in my placement for uni." She fabricated. She was lucky she had muggle friends, otherwise coming up with a fake story, would've been much more difficult.

"They let uni students take on murder scenes?"

'Blimey was this man asking many questions.' Tonks thought.

"They generally don't, but I'm studying Forensic Science and my supervisor thought I needed some real experience." She replied. "It was so traumatising seeing it though…"

"I'm sorry. That can't be easy."

"It was children..every time I close my eyes I can see them."

"That's horrifying." Remy responded. "You clearly deserve this drink more than I do." He said pushing his whiskey over to her.

She downed the drink fast and felt the warmth of the liquor run through her body.

Remus Lupin was sick of this day. He was still pissed that Harry was in the Triwizard Tournament. He was only fourteen and shouldn't have been in that situation. The fact that Dumbledore and the Minister of Magic weren't able to do anything about it made him even angrier.

When he walked into the muggle pub situated in East London, he planned on having a drink or two and mull over his thoughts. He never expected to end up in a conversation with a young blonde haired muggle woman. They'd exchanged stories, and even while he omitted a lot from his, hers was clearly worse. He felt sorry for the poor girl having to see something so disgusting. The muggle world was often so violent. He'd read about senseless crimes in the muggle papers before and was often horrified with what he read.

They shared several drinks as the evening passed on until the barman had cut them off.

"What an arse!" Leigh huffed as they walked out of the pub. "I'm not even that drunk!" She complained and promptly tripped over a dip in the pavement.

"You sure about that?" He laughed.

"Oi! I'm not drunk, promise. I'm just clumsy sometimes."

"Well let's get you home before you cause anymore damage then."

He hailed a taxi worried that she'd wind up falling onto the tracks in the tube. They rode to her flat together and she sleepily laid her head on his shoulder. His senses came alive at her scent. She smelled like a mix of honey and whiskey with a hint spicy undertones.

'Easy boy, she's 20...just a child, not to mention a muggle.' He chided himself.

When they arrived to her block of flats, he walked her up the stairs to her door using her clumsiness and drunkenness as an excuse to spend more time with her.

She unlocked her door but before she walked in, she pulled him down to her lips eagerly kissing him.

Opening the door behind her, she pulled him into the studio flat. Soon clothes were strewn and they were naked, hands roaming.

Tonks woke up the next morning, naked, blinded by the bright morning sun. Her head hurt from the endless whiskey from last night. She looked over to the side table and saw a small note.

'Leigh- had a wonderful time last night. Left paracetamol for your head & water. -Remy'

She popped the 2 pills into her mouth followed by the water. She sighed, upset about not getting more information about Remy. This wasn't her first one night stand, but compared to other muggle men she'd had, he seemed genuine and smart. She really wouldn't have minded seeing him again.

She laid back into her bed attempting to return to sleep.

November 4th, 1994

The five weeks had passed by quickly for Tonks. Luckily, no other murders had occurred, but the Ministry of Magic was endlessly busy. The Triwizard Tournament had sent many of the older Aurors to Hogwarts while the Junior Aurors like herself were left to pick up the grunt work and paperwork.

She looked at the mountain of paperwork still left on her desk and opted to finish it the next day. She was exhausted and wanted to crawl into her bed, looking at more paperwork would probably send her off to sleep at her desk.

Once home, she ordered takeaway from the nearby chinese restaurant and removed her makeup before getting into her pajamas. She turned on her television hoping to catch Eastenders.

Her flat looked like a typical muggle uni student's flat. It was a small studio, the bed in the middle of the room; tiny kitchenette that she only used to make her tea and toasties or cereal; and the small washroom that was packed tightly with dirty clothes, makeup, and other beauty products. She had originally chosen to live in muggle London to prove to her friends that it was no different than the magic world. But soon, she ended up falling in love with it. Her neighbours were kind, the flat she lived in was comfortable and all her own. She also loved living in London; her salary from the ministry was just enough to afford the tiny flat along with living expenses.

The knock from the takeaway delivery had shaken her out of her thoughts. She paid the man and quickly ate the hot food as soon as she shut the door.

The next morning, she woke up feeling slightly ill. Her stomach felt heavy and riddled with nausea. She blamed the chinese from last night...sometimes it was dodgy and made her sick, but she could never stop ordering it. She shrugged off the feeling and got ready for another work day.

As her day continued, she was sure she'd contracted food poisoning. She still hadn't vomited, but she felt close to it several times during her day.

"You alright Tonks?" Amelia her office mate asked.

"I think I had a dodgy chinese yesterday."

"Eww. Do you need me to pick you up some anti-nausea draught from the apothecary?"

"No thank you. I'll be fine by tonight."

"Alright. I'll be back from lunch by half one."

"See ya."

A couple of days had passed and she still wasn't feeling any better. To make it worse, she was late. Her periods had never been regular, she was often a week late sometimes ten days late if she was particularly stressed, but two weeks was not normal. She hadn't felt the usual telltale cramping nor the breakouts on her face. Her breast were sore, but that was the only sign. This was more than just stress, she knew it. The night she'd slept with Remy, she couldn't place any charms, she didn't ask if he had a condom, and she also never took a preventative potion the next day.

She'd taken the day off from work, claiming illness and made her way to St. Mungo's. She sat in the maternity ward waiting for her turn with the midwife. It was a particularly busy day in the ward, she'd seen several women in labour and heard a couple of cries and groans coming from the room. Still, she waited despite having the urge to run out of the hospital.

Finally came her turn. The midwife asked the typical questions. 'Date of last period.' 'Last time she had intercourse.' 'Any pregnancy like symptoms?'

Once the questions were over, the midwife gave her an internal exam and gave her the answer she knew was coming.

"Well you are certainly pregnant Miss Tonks. I'd say you're measuring at five weeks and 5 days along." The midwife's voice replayed in her head the rest of the day.

She was going to be a mum. She wasn't sure if she'd be able to handle that responsibility at only 20. Sure she was turning 21 in February, but being one year older meant nothing. Her parents would be so disappointed...falling pregnant after a one night stand was something no parent could be proud of. She also thought of her job. She'd dreamed of being an Auror for a long while, and this would put her behind in her work. She'd be placed on desk duty and would be unable to take part in the compulsory physical training activities that all Junior Aurors had.

Her entire life would change drastically from this and she wasn't sure if she was very happy.

There you have it, the first rewrite! I've changed quite a bit, it made more sense especially since I was trying to follow Goblet of Fire in the first chapter...I had to make sure the time and date matched up to what was happening in the books. Let me know if you enjoyed this chapter!

p.s. I accidentally miscounted the days/weeks so I have corrected them to match up to the story progression!
