A/N: This is a bit angsty, more so than what I usually write for Doctor Who. I wanted to publish this before "The Wedding of River Song" came on, but just didn't have the time. Enjoy anyway! I do NOT own the creepy doll nursery rhyme!

Tick-tock...goes the clock...and what now shall we play...?

He ran. Possibly harder than he ever had in his life. It just wasn't fast enough.

Tick-tock...goes the clock...now summer's gone away...

The song echoed through the dark corridor...down the narrow hallway...

In his head as he sprinted to save her life.

Tick-tock...goes the clock...and what now shall we see...?

No, no, NO! RIVER! RIVER! Oh God...

Tick-tock...goes the clock...till thou shall marry me...

The clock began to tick down.

RIVER!

Tick-tock...goes the clock...and all the years they fly...

He finally saw her. Lying on the ground.

Not moving.

Tick-tock...goes the clock...and all too soon...you and I must die.

River...River no...

Tick...tock...

He held her. Begged her to wake. Kissed her hair.

Goes the clock...

Please, wake up...

He cradled and he rocked her...

He was too late. He held her body, at the end of the corridor where River Song lost her life.

Tick-tock...

Too late. And if it was too late for her, it was too late for him.

Goes the clock...

Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy...and so many others he had let down. He felt like there was no point for him anymore.

"River, I'm so sorry...I love you." were said to be his last words.

Even for the Doctor.

A/N: *winces at immense angst* Yeah, that was a bit dark. But, when it comes to fanfiction, I'm bi-polar! Thanks for reading!
