Chapter 28

Mine

Hanna was stirred from her sleep from the gentle click of the door, she opened her eyes slightly and it took her a moment to realise where she was. She smiled when she remembered and turned in the bed to look over to her new son and daughter.
She sat up with a start when she noticed a figure leaning over them which most certainly wasn't a nurse, in that moment she remembered A,
"Hey! Get away from them! Who are you?" She shouted turning on the bed light beside her.

"Is that anyway to treat the father of your children?" Mark replied sharply turning towards her.
"Mark? What are you doing here at this time of the night?" She asked.
"Well I would have been her earlier, but you didn't actually bother to tell me you were in labour," he replied sternly.
"Well I'm sorry but I was a little busy!" She snapped back,
"Not too busy to let Caleb know of course," he replied,
"My friend's phoned him for me," she said,
"Oh yes of course," he added firmly,
"Best not forget Caleb, never mind that these children are mine too!"
"We don't know if they are yours or his…" Hanna replied before he cut her short,
"So when is the paternity test Hanna?" He shouted,
"Would you keep your voice down!" She half shouted back,
"You'll wake the babies. I will sort out the tests, but they're only a few hours old and I'm still very tired out," she told him.
"I have a right to see them Hanna… they are mine and I missed the birth of my own children, and who was here instead? Mummy's bit on the side," he told her cruelly.
"Even if these children are yours, Caleb will still mean something to them, he will be in their lives regardless," she assured him firmly.
"I won't have it," he told her.
He looked crazy Hanna thought, the look in his eyes made her feel uneasy,
"You have no choice in the matter Mark. I'm back with Caleb and the twins father makes no difference to that."
Mark sneered at her, she had never seen him give such a strong look of disgust before,
"You'll turn them both against me, just like you have with Harry," he told her.
"I've done no such thing Mark. Harry is Caleb's son and he has nothing to do with you anymore," she told him firmly trying not to let the fear which was building inside her show.
"But these children do!" Mark counteracted,
"If they are yours," Hanna replied.
"Well I suppose that is questionable. After all if you were sneaking around with Caleb who knows how many other men you had on the go," he said viciously.
"Get out!" Hanna commanded him pointing to the door.
"Hit a nerve have I?" Mark asked walking out the door, he reminded Hanna of a villain in a fairy tale. The part just didn't suit him, only a few years ago she would have described him as the handsome prince, taking on a divorcee with a child. Now it was like something inside him had snapped. She watched him carefully as he headed out the door again,
"When you find out they are mine I will come for them, and then you'll never see them again," Mark told her through gritted teeth, his eyes starring right through her.

When Caleb arrived at the hospital the next morning he found Hanna arguing with one of the nurses,
"I didn't breastfeed my first born and it didn't do him any harm, so I won't be doing it with the twins," she told her,
"But it's much better for the babies development," the nurse was telling her,
"Oh and because I've made the decision not to that means I don't want what's best for my children?" Hanna argued back,
"That's not what I'm saying," the nurse replied, Caleb felt quite sorry for her and decided to interrupt.
"Good Morning Beautiful," he greeted Hanna with a kiss before presenting Hanna with two bunches of Geraniums, one blue and one pink,
"Oh Caleb, they're lovely," Hanna gushed.
"Let me put those in water for you," the nurse said, taking the flowers from Caleb, clearly grateful for the chance to escape. Caleb waited until she had left the room when he turned back to Hanna and asked,
"Are you okay?"
Hanna folded her arms and nodded,
"I'm fine, you know I don't like the whole breastfeeding thing," she replied. He shook his head and laughed,
"Yeah when we were young and you were worried it would make them…what was it you said?" He asked,
"Saggy!" She reminded him, "And what are you saying?" Her voice had gotten a little higher,
"That now I'm older they aren't worth worrying about?" She added. Caleb held his hands up to her,
"Whoa Han, calm down baby," he told her. Something had made her edgy, he was sure of it, but decided he would try to do what he could you cheer her up a little,
"And I have to say," he began eyeing her chest,
"Your boobs look great," he finished shifting his eyebrows at her, she smiled a little,
"Thanks," she said. Caleb decided to try something else.

He walked over to the cribs on the opposite side of the room containing his new son and daughter,
"How are my little munchkins this morning?" He cooed to them leaning over the cribs gazing at them lovingly.
"Decided to wake me at 4am," Hanna commented,
"Little troublemakers already," Caleb chuckled,
"Just like their Mummy," he added glancing back over at Hanna, but she didn't appear to be listening.
Caleb sat down on the bed beside Hanna,
"Han what's up?" He asked her worriedly,
"We need to get the DNA test done as soon as possible?" She replied abruptly and it took Caleb back a little, but he nodded,
"I agree, but Han what's the matter?" He asked,
"I just want him out of our lives," she told him,
"And the sooner the better," she added,
"So do I," Caleb agreed again,
"He's not being part of their lives Caleb I mean it," She told him, her voice was becoming higher again and shrill,
"I thought I knew him, but I saw another side to him last night," she admitted. Hanna hadn't been sure she was going to tell Caleb about Mark's late night visit, she wasn't sure how he would react.
Caleb frowned,
"Last night?" He questioned,
"He was here last night? Why was he here? What did he want?" Caleb continued shooting questions at her,
"He's convinced they're his Caleb, I've never seen him that way. He looked mad," she confided in him,
"He… he frightened me," she added. Caleb moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her,
"You don't have to be frightened of him Hanna, he won't be in our lives for much longer," he told her,
"We won't be moving into that new development, we'll move away from him, even if it means…" he paused, he knew how she felt about leaving Rosewood, but instead she continued,
"Leaving Rosewood," she agreed.

So there you have it. Mark's not as lovely as he seems.
What do you think? She Hanna and Caleb take the kids and leave Rosewood?
