A/N: I do not own Skipbeat! or any of its characters

Unapologetic

"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" The irate, young man turned to see who had shoved him from behind.

An old woman, clutching her coat together tightly in her fist, hurried on without sparing him a second glance, or regret.

Mogami Saena tried to still her shaking fingers and calm her wildly beating heart as she opened the door to the department store.

She edged cautiously down the aisle, ducking toward a rack of colorful blouses when she heard the sound of tinkling laughter drawing near. She bent over the clothes, head down, yet at the last second was unable to resist a quick peek.

There she was! Her golden eyes glowing, lips curved in an enraptured smile as she spoke animatedly to her companions.

"… and the fairy prince would rescue the princess from the evil demon, who obviously never stood a chance in the first place, and carry her back to the king and queen. And..."

Though the story continued, her voice faded, along with the other girls' giggles as they drew further away.

Saena pressed a hand against the ache that throbbed in her chest, her lips clamped tightly together in pain.

Kyoko. For the first time in what felt like a lifetime she had been close to the daughter that she'd unapologetically carried and given birth to.

If only I had kept that strength… If only I hadn't become bitter… If only she could forgive me… If only…

She pushed herself away from the bright clothing, a mockery of her dismal life. With one last backward glance, she forced her fumbling feet to carry her out the door.

I don't deserve if only.

A/N: I wasn't planning to do any more with Unwanted, but for some reason this is stuck in my head. Once again I want to make a disclaimer - I in no way think that Saena should be excused for what she did. That said, the potential conflict in her character interests me. As a result the rest of this story will probably be rather sad for those of you who'd rather avoid it. Anyway, read and review - if you like.
