Love at the end of a sword

I do not own House of Night in any way.

"Oooo", Emily said, "We've got Professor Lankford next!"

"He's so yummy!" Bailey said.

"Girls! He just lost his mate!" I scolded them.

We walked to fencing class.

Dragon strolled in.

"Look, yummy", Bailey said.

"Shh", I said.

"Miss…what is it?" Dragon asked.

I cleared my throat and said, "Princess".

"Join me in the ring, Princess", Dragon said, "Grab a lance".

"I already have one of my own, Professor", I said.

"Good", he said.

"Only mine isn't a lance. It's a sword given to me by my grandfather", I said.

His lips twitched. He stepped forward and hit my sword with his. "Ready?" Dragon asked.

"As ever", I said raising my sword.

Dragon swung his sword and I blocked.

We did this for a few minutes.

I could tell he was growing angry.

He swung his sword again and I spun around blocking it.

"That all you got, Professor?" I asked.

He growled and the fighting really started.

I managed to swing my leg and knock his sword out of his hand. I knocked him down and held the tip of my sword to his neck.

My classmates cheered for me.

I backed up and allowed Dragon to get up.

He picked up his sword.

The bell rang and the students left.

Dragon stepped closer to me. He raised his hand to my face. "Never in my years of teaching have I ever met a fledgling like you. It's almost how I met…" Dragon paused.

"Anastasia?" I asked.

He cringed at the mention of his dead mate.

"We all loved her", I told him. I kissed the crescent moon on his forehead. "I should be going...Dragon", I said. I picked up my books and left the classroom.
