"Oh, yes, I saw you talking to her," said Mrs. Li. "You know, I never realized she kept a dog."

"She doesn't."

Mrs. Li frowned. "Well, I could have sworn she was walking one just now," she said. "A yellow Lab, it looked like. Was she watching it for someone else?"

Wanda grinned. "Nah," she said. "She just didn't want to look for a parking space."

Mrs. Li took a moment to process that. Then she nodded. "Smart woman."
