The Doctor is fond of his adjectives for the human race. And he has one (or several) for everything.
And in terms of his connection to Martha Jones, he decided on "irrefutable".
He knew it was inevitable that he would be doubted, because of his previous attitudes; towards her and the difference between her and Rose.
When he first said it, she accepted it, but he could see she hated herself for even wanting to ask the question. Once, not long afterwards, when he had just awoke and there was a regular conversation going; and after she had kept an eye on him just in case because he'd worn himself out. He thanked her and said, automatically: "I love you so much."
As hard as she tried, and no matter how much she had grown, she sometimes wondered, purely from his perspective- if he actually could. If, in his stupid brain, if it was anywhere near. So she decided to just state it.
"You love R-"
He launched himself at her before she could finish. When they broke apart, he took her face in his hands.
"I might lie about a lot of things, but not that. I'm done with that fobbing you off crap. And don't tell me what I think."
"And what do you think?"
"I think you underestimate me regarding that- although not without good reason. And I think I should confirm this to you, and that you have nothing to worry about, and if I'm proved wrong you can punish me in anyway you see fit."
"You swear?"
"Yes."
